The Everett and Germaine show

A

Someone told me that Everett and Germaine were on 'EEI this weekend. Is that true? Did anybody hear it?

I heard it...not sure how it would play on a regular (even every weekend) basis, but I must say that I was entertained. I didn't feel like I was listening to experts, but I thought they played off each other well and they took positions. My favorite moment was when they took a hockey call and began reciting information they either pulled up on the net or were fed by the producer. They laughed with the caller, not at him and at the end one of them said, "Steve (the caller) did you know that on this date in 1970 (I think), Bobby Orr scored two goals and two assists to become the first defenseman to record 100 points?" Hilarious.

It wasn't forced, I thought they were funny (I heard about a half hour of it) and for guys who are untrained and don't have experience together or apart, I was pleasantly surprised. I preferred them to Halloran, who I heard on Sunday morning.

I guess this statement begs the question; Why are two stuttering, stammering, one trick ponies, who know very little about sports, GIVEN a show on sports radio? Unless they've changed since the last time I listened to D&C, I've never actually heard them talk about sports.

I definitely share your opinion about Motormouth Halloran. It looks like WEEI has just decided that they can put on anything on weekends. I know that I don't listen on Saturdays very much anymore. I heard Halloran on Sunday and switched to music.

I agree about the perspective - definitely a good change of pace. I thought they were fairly well versed on football. The discussion I heard was about the benefits of Ty Law vs. Pacman Jones. I also thought their discussion about the rationale for and effectiveness of Roger Goodell's player discipline policies was compelling. I'll be the first one to agree that some of the programming can be repetitive and that Mustard and Johnson is hit or miss at best, but I found these two to be a breath of fresh air. They would have to do more prep work to sustain themselves, but if I heard them again I would check it out for a while. I also think Mutnansky (sp?) is pretty good, but in a very different way. He's more of an informational "Dale" type while E and J are more like D and C. They can generate an emotional reaction. Halloran looks good on TV, but I find him intellectually shallow, and thus a liability on radio when he has to think rather than read a prompter. I like Adams and Buckley on The Baseball Show better than Curran and the other guys they had do The Football Show. I guess that's all the commentary I have on the WEEI weekend talent...

Here's an idea:

If Everett and Germaine become a permanent show fixture...and they continue to take phone calls...the name of the show could be changed to the Everette-Germaine Group? Or EGG for short?

That would make a few sports hens cackle! :D

ITS JERMAINE ! Could this be the Boston version of the Two live stews ( Sports Show in Atlanta ) ?

How do Rapking and SonicAl know what the correct spelling of JERMAINE'S name is anyway? I've seen it spelled with a "G" many times. Do you have his bio?

The spelling of his name isn't even germane to the conversation (couldn't resist).

I wasn't disputing your spelling. I just wondered how you knew. These two aren't exactly household names.

There alot of Jermaine in Sports ( Jermaine O'Neal, NBA Player )

I didn't listen to the guys last week, but I listened for a good amount today....they're pretty good! As someone said, they work good together and play off each other nicely. Have either of them had any broadcast training?

I guess Everett and Jermaine have run out of fresh material. Sheppard said that he turned them on and they were talking about how few African Americans in Boston play baseball. He said he turned it off after one minute. Brett and Andy made several cutting comments about their show also. I was surprised at the open hostility toward them. They must see that their "show" makes a farce out of all the regular shows and, by extension, their jobs.

some of us have to turn off the radio when pete sheppard starts fawning all over tom brady, bill belichik, et al.

i do have one small correction for everett and jermaine....they said baseball has an 'e.r.a. program' to help get urban blacks playing baseball. it is actually called the r.b.i. program (re-vitalizing baseball in the inner-city)

Well, it was an annoying segment....

They were complaining that only about 10% of MLBs are African American. If they checked the latest census they would know that only 12% of the USAs pop us African American. So 10% shouldn't be that shocking of a # at all really.

I could see them being upset if 1% of MLBs were African American, but when virtually the same % of the population is also the same % of the Baseball Playing population there is nothing there to complain about.

People make this a big issue because baseball was 27% African American , back in the 70's and 80's . As long as Baseball dont go back to the Pre-Jackie Robinson Days( White only ) , I say so what , who care's .

The point is that their sports knowledge is very limited. It only took a couple of shows for them to start talking about race instead of sports. Pete Gustin did a bit about it already that they played a couple of times on the Big Show yesterday. I get the impression that Brett and Andy are somewhat resentful. And rightfully so; why don't they get a shot at a show?

Everett said today is his last time calling WEEI today on D&C....and they asked him if he needed a producer....so my ? is....where is he ending up?
