Too bad the Union-Tribune didn't report the correct ratings. In December the Mikey show was 11th 25-54....In "Holiday" it was 8th 25-54. Those are horrible numbers for a show that costs $500,000 a year and is supposed to be a top-tier, high-profile, talent-driven show. I think poor Karla Peterson who wrote the article was just fed the wrong info by the people at KBZT who are will do anything to save their jobs. The fact is, KSON's three-person morning show (who work down the hall from the Mikey trainwreck) was just today named major market show of the year by the Academy of Country Music. But yesterday, 2/3's of the show was fired! This obviously was done because Lincoln Financial has dug itself into a deep, deep hole by committing so much money to such a loss-leader as the Mikey Show. Lincoln Financial is committed to overpaying the hapless and underperforming Mikey Show for ANOTHER TWO YEARS! SO what do they do? They fire the solid KSON show, just as it looks like 95.7 is considering switching to sports. So what you get with the Mikey Show is three things 1/a tremendous waste of money that, after a whole year on the air, is showing pathetic ratings, 2/a hack show largely manned by radio amateurs that is alienating 94/9's formerly loyal music-loving fanbase, and, 3/the deterioration of a nationally recognized morning show (Cliff Dumas, etc.) just so Lincoln Financial can show less red ink as it tries to keep the Mikey disaster afloat. Darrel Goodin never looked so good! I swear this would be a good premise for a movie.
