Checked the latest trend.
WKOS didn't even show up.
This time it wasn't with the small town AMs and day to duskers.
I mean nothing. Nada. No rating.
The fact this once-competitive station has fallen off the map shows many things.
At my snarkiest- I think it shows the shortcomings of the area's radio minds; at my most forgiving I can see where corporate suits at Citadel are trying to make an area and staff (what's left of it) fit into their ideals.
I think they're down to two DJs over there. I believe Bud was moved to sports and other projects (I personally would like to hear him on the Morning Monster full-time; I believe he's a fresh voice whenever he makes an appearance and he could do more fill-in work instead of having to ask Bill Meade and Bobby Rader do double-shifts).
How much longer can this go on?
I put some ideas for format changes on another thread- such as flip to country with a format that features a few classic cuts to try and take some of WXBQ's audience away, or move the sports format to 104.9 and return classic country to 640 with brokered time on 1320.
But before we do the latter and take away the remaining DJs jobs, may I ask what kind of promotion there is being done?
I saw a WXBQ bumper sticker yesterday and could only think "My, when was the last time I saw a radio station bumper sticker?"
It seems promotion IS at an all-time low for radio in the area. I realize times are tough and budgets are low, so what about publicity stunts, remotes, etc.?
Granted, I think they could put the entire promotional budget on Free Hill Rd. into WKOS and I don't think it would make a significant impact. I could see it under such circumstances compete with WXIS or somebody like that, but I couldn't see it as "the alternative to WTFM for those who like it LIVELY!"
But they have to do something there.
