The Fairness Doctrine: It's Baaaaaaack! (Maybe)

There are currently two bills being evaluated that deal with broadcast re-regulation in general and the Fairness Doctrine in particular.

And this thread is about the one being put forward by Kuchinich, so you provide references to the other one. Typical.

There are currently two bills being evaluated that deal with broadcast re-regulation in general and the Fairness Doctrine in particular. One entitled "Meaningful Expression of Democracy in America Act" HR4710 was introduced by Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY) with 37 co-sponsors. It includes the following statement relating to reintroduction of FD

Actually, there's not. That Slaughter bill was introduced in the 108th Congress, which ended 2 years ago (2003-2004). Bills, if not acted upon, die with the end of each session.

So, HR 4710 died at least 2 years ago.

Have any bills been introduced THIS SESSION, the 110th Congress?

of course, the answer to that is NO. The 'FD' is not part of the '100 hour plan' put forth by the Dems, which includes tightening ethics rules for lawmakers, raising the minimum wage, allowing more research on stem cells and cutting interest rates on student loans.

However,I believe Kook-sinich was floating a 'trial balloon', but that doesn't mean his bill will even get introduced. Like Boyce said 'the genie is out of the bottle'. Like it or not, there is too much $$$ generated, even if it made it to a legislative session, ( which is highly unlikely ) it would die in committee. It would have about as much chance as Kooky Dennis' presidential aspirations ::)

Nice try, though.

If it has so little chance of being re-enacted why are you spending so much time discussing it?

Also, do a Google search for "Fairness Doctrine" and the 18 of the first 20 retrievels are by conservative bloggers who are clearly outraged about this development.

take a chill pill

It never ceases to amaze me how you can think of so many non-sequiturs to dodge direct questions.

Actually, I'm waiting for Hilary to get elected President and provide us all with free health care before I purchase any medication.

1. It is an interesting topic.

2. Even though the odds of it being passed are slim, the damage it would cause would be extreme. The prospect of huge amounts of damage makes even a long-shot worth discussing.

Who cares what bloggers have to say, regardless of whether they are conservative or liberal? The next radio blogger whose site contains something really worth reading will be the first.
