The Fan closing the gap

I wouldn't be surprised if The Fan ends up surpassing WKNR in some demos. Some competition has helped 850 stay on their toes. CK needs to do more to keep his station at the top of the sports wars.

From what I've been told, in the key male demo last month...The Fan and KNR are in a statistical tie.

I can't read the article. Yes, WKNR and WKRK are more or less tied. However, WTAM delivers a larger AQH than both stations combined. I have access to the ratings, but I wonder how Crains is commenting on Arbitron numbers. IIRC WKNR is not a subscriber and Arbitron's policy is only to share subscribers' numbers. I can only guess is that someone at WKRK shared the book with the writer (and presumably put their own spin on it).

The article is five months old, so it was probably written before the Arbitron subscription poicy went into effect.

Tell me, how does one see WKNR's numbers when they don't subscribe to Arbitron?

Ratings for all stations are available to those who pay for them (so the Clear Channel, CBS Radio, and Rubber City folks can see everyone's numbers, even for the stations that don't subscribe).

The markets are not embargoed, but Arbitron will not release the numbers for non-subscribers to anyone other than subscribers. That's why when you see ratings published in the trades, you'll see them labeled as "subscriber only". If you go to the ratings tab on this site and select Cleveland, you'll see WKNR conspicuously absent.
