The Fan fires Kalena Bell

... and the christmas music is getting pulled out of the closet and dusted off ... The 93.7 frequency will be playing it first!

Seriously, two questions - 1 - She has not improved since day one - why wait this long to can her? -2- Why can her before anyone else - 30 second updates don't make or break a station. If they think Ms. Bell was the sole responsibility for that 1.0 12+ they are very mistaken!

Thats too bad about Kalena Bell. She might not have been the best talent. She is young and with more experience, she should improve.

Some people just aren't cut out to be news-readers. Maybe she could try being a DJ.

Kudo's to whoever landed that big Mormon account fpr the Fan. Talk about saturation bombing, after a couple days of listening to their ads, i'm ready to go find another wife or 3.

That seems to be a bit of a stretch, they got rid of the station's worst talent and replaced her, at least for the time being, with the far more professional sounding Larry Hagman. I don't think anyone claimed that KB was the reason for the station's numbers, only that she didn't perform up to par, despite being given an adequate chance to do so. Under your logic ESPN 1250 will be flipping formats because they fired Eartha Jackson.

Things are not going well there, however.... after a week or 2 of looking a little better, they are not even in the top 10 in men 25-54, their target demo. Q92.9 has more male listeners.

At the other end of the talent spectrum, it appears that the 6-10PM guy, Gregg Gianotti, is gaining a little more traction than the rest. They had him fill in for Seibel a couple of days and then for Burton on the morning show.. he did a pretty funny imitation of Pirates manager Monotone John Russell.... maybe they're moving him around with the thought of shuffling time slots....

Kalena bell was not qualified to do that job. whatever happened to experience and talent counting for anything. they tried to force her into a role she was not qualified or ready for. Trying to save a few bucks is killing radio. there is no need to use the word "quality" when referring to talent anymore.

Not meaning to digress from the topic at hand, but I think the gentleman named Hagman well may be Eric Hagman, late of KQV, and not the fellow who walked around with a portable fan to cool off anyone smoking. As for the "bring out the Christmas music" sentiment, I think we'd see some syndicated programming around the edges of what I'm sure would stay a 6 a.m.-10 p.m. local talk format long before we start talking stunts to lead in to another format.

CBS is very committed to sports programming in general. They just hired Bruce Gilbert to run their Dallas station; after leaving 1250 here he ran ESPN Radio and most recently was in CEO at Red Zebra in DC, owned by Redskins owner Dan Snyder.

they have a few big markets where they have to get some things right, but don't expect any plugs to be pulled anytime soon. Bell may have been the first of several lineup changes, but the Fan will be here for the foreseeable future.

If anything in the CBS cluster is in trouble now its the hybrid B/Star format on 100.7....

Remember, as long as The Fan doesn't lose $3 million a year it is doing its job.

Having said that it has now become blindingly apparent that the present lineup is a joke. Once the dust settles at CBS Corporate in a few weeks people there are actually going to start paying attention to what is going on at 93.7 and they are not going to like it.

I suspect that by the end of the year around half the present airstaff and the PD will be gone.

Eric Hagman is a pro...When I was the PD at the old WESA/Charleroi, back in the 80's, I always felt glad to have him on the air and I'm sure Terry Foxx feels the same.

Watch Kalena magically reappear on FSN Pittsburgh... excuse me, (FS)Pittsburgh.
