The Fan to drop Dan Patrick

as of Monday 7/24 Speilman and Ricordati (sp?) will be live noon to 3 followed by Herbie and Hooley from 3 to 7. Does anyone think that Speilman and Ricorgoffus can come up with 3 hours of interesting content every day? and what about all the days Spielman misses in the Fall because of PbP for ESPN college football coverage? I think this is a real step down for the Fan.

Do they carry Mike & Mike as well? Could be a contract thing if they don't, I think I had heard that ESPN was now requiring affiliates to clear Mike & Mike to get Dan Patrick.

I thought they did have Mike and Mike?
I suppose they could go with Jim Rome since that's what lots of people wanted on this board anyway if this new venture fails.

I agree, it's a real step down. I think the Fan is very weak in many departments. It's interesting how the daytime Buckeye Basketball games are not on FM but the football games are. I think that's a real slap in the fact for the basketball program. It's hard to get AM anywhere in a lot of office buildings and I think with the CSTV internet deal the webcast doesn't have the games but not sure.

Unless I've been hallucinating, 97.1 does indeed broadcast daytime (or at least late-afternoon) basketball, at least on the weekends. But neither sport belongs on a Hot AC, even when the team on fire -- especially the more-frequent and intrusive (and less popular) basketball.

It is often a requirement for affiliates of the Ohio State Buckeye Radio Network that if you carry football on a station, you must carry basketball. That was what the contract said when I worked for a station that carried the Buckeyes.

97.1 used to carry ALL football and basketball, but now it only carries games that start at night or will carry past the time 1460 has to power down. As all of us in the area know, 1460 is ridiculously tough to hear in some parts of the metro at night. I live off Brice Road, only about five miles from the towers, and even though the signal is very listenable at night a bit of skywave can be heard in the background.
For one, I prefer listening to OSU broadcasts on 97.1 for the superior sound quality. I wish they still carried all OSU basketball instead of just night games.
