The Fan

Personally, I think the station will be very successful. #1, the signal. Just yesterday, I turned into the weakest part of their programming, the ABC show, since I hate Mike and Mike. But it didn't hit me until about 11AM that Stand and Guy were on, and Cookie and Co are pretty good. Plus, anytime I'm 10 miles north, 1250 is non-existent. Starkey and Seibel kill The Drive. And unless whatever station Madden works for dumps the music, I'll listen to The Fan.

It's about time an FM station went talk in this town.

I agree, they've done a good enough job that the future looks bright for the Fan. To me the question is, what does ESPN do? With the new ratings method, they will know in a month or two that they are in trouble. Do they:

--Cut expenses and go the 970 route (ie keep stan and guy and run mostly EPSN network programming the rest of the day)
--Buy an FM station to compete
--Get out of the pittsburgh market
--Other?

Apparently, you haven't been paying attention for the last six years. ;D

I lived in Cranberry Twp. for 10 years and could never listen to ESPN or 970 because of the horrible static. Of course 93.7 decides to go FM Sports after we move away. On Saturday morning I had to take a quick trip back to Pittsburgh and as soon as I got through the last tunnel heading weston the Turnpike, I was able to pick up B94 - K-Rock - The Man Station - B94 - The Fan. I actually have a program on my Moto Droid that allows me to pick up The Fan and I had it on starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday and listened to Ron Cook. He did a very good job I thought and he had on Smizek. I didn't know he retired from the P-G. Then on the way home to Lancaster I listened to Vinny, I'm guessing he's the one from New York and he had on some good guests. He seems to be bending over backwards to defend the Pirates management though. Overall I think The Fan will succeed on FM, especially for audiences in Butler Co. like where I used to live.

Let me rephrase, about time an FM station had GOOD talk in this town. Never a fan of Ellis Cannon and Madden I can take in bits. The old Man Station never got a long enough look. And I don't care to listen to old fart windbags like Quinn, Rose, Rush, and the 30 other guys that do nothing but bitch and moan.

If KDKA AM was only 10K watts, I doubt they would dominate the AM market.
