I'm not from your area, but I have fond memories of coming through Boston one night about ten years ago at Christmas time, and hearing some sweet stuff from WJIB. When I got home I looked them up, and was astonished to see they only run 5 watts at night, but what a charming 5 watts it was!

WJIB-740's Night Signal (Was: Re: The Fate Of Christmas Music On The Radio)

Zenith Transoceanic:

You raved about WJIB-740's 5-watt nighttime signal; I suspect you may have listened to it at the time when there was no station on 740 in Toronto (CBL vacated that frequency to move to FM in June of 1999; CFZM did not move to 740 until early 2001).

Today, if you live outside Route 128 (the beltway around Boston), it's almost impossible to hear WJIB at night, You usually get CFZM. Inside 128, especially the closer you get to Cambridge, you're more likely to hear WJIB on 740 at night than CFZM.

Well thank you for the update, Joseph_Gallant. I'll be prepared
should I chance to come up that way again.
Perhaps WJIB should ask the FCC for a wee bit more power at night!
