The fate of two QC stations....

When I first heard of The CW, the two likely suitors were KGWB and WBQD. But then Rupert Murdoch announced My Network TV to also air this fall, and now I wonder....KGWB is co-owned with KLJB, the Fox station. But WBQD is low-powered and can't reach the entire market, whereas KGWB's transmitter is in Burlington and doesn't reach the Quad Cities. So the question remains: What will which station become?

Based on what is happening, at least as The CW is concerned, they are looking at several factors. One of them is prime time ratings performance. While the actual numbers cannot be posted on Radio-Info forums, they are available in the 1/30/06 issue of TV Week. Based on the prime time ratings in the 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 demo, KGWB has a clear advantage. In the Cedar Rapids-Waterloo market, KWKB has a lead over KWWF but the margin is not as big.

Agreed. I would think KGWB has the advantage as far as having CW, if they so choose to go in that direction. KGWB is also on DBS services Directv and Dish. So they have that going for them. The question then becomes whether KGWB wants to align itself with CW or Murdoch's new network. While CW isn't totally established, I'm not sure if KGWB wants to go through another series of helping build another start-up network in MyNetwork.

One thing is a given. Whatever ends up on KGWB, the other network will end up on WBQD.

I would assume MyNetwork will eventually become part of Directv's local channels lineup, with MyNetwork and Directv being under the same umbrella of Murdoch.

KGWB is licensed to Burlington, but I do believe the tower is located near Aledo.
