The Winners:
Brother Wease: For displaying “True Grit” after undergoing treatment for sinus cancer. We were all praying for your recovery and our prayers were answered. Keep on rocking brother!
Bud Lowell & Randy Gorbman: Two of the hardest working and most dedicated radio newsmen in Rochester. These guys are the heart and souls of their respective news departments. These guys don’t punch out at 5:00 PM. They are always coming up with new story ideas on their own and not sitting around waiting to re-write press releases.
Robert Craig Savage: For having the guts and determination to start his own radio station from scratch and turning it into a successful operation,
despite the fact that his station is competing against some of the biggest broadcasting corporations in the metro Rochester area.
Scott Fybush: Another person who gave up a full time career in broadcasting to pursue his dream of creating a successful web site that updates, not only Western New York, but the northeastern United States, with the latest news about broadcasting. Check out this guy’s work.

The Losers:
WROC-TV: For continuing their long history of either firing or forcing good people out the door. In the past several months five on-air employees have left the station, with the latest being Rachel Barnhart; one of the best investigative reporters on Rochester television.
The best thing that could happen to Channel 8 is if the station was sold to new owners that actually wanted to compete in the Rochester market, instead of worrying about saving pennies.
Entercom: For not renewing Allan Harris’ contract. Hired away from WHAM with the intention of bringing to WROC-950-AM a local morning presence, instead Entercom eventually decided to reduce Harris’ show to one hour a day and then eliminated his program altogether so the station could carry Air America. The results, a .09 rating in the last book (12+). Then again we’re talking about the same company that just deep-six WWKB’s format in Buffalo. Nice going guys!
WHAM-TV: Dancing with local celebrities. All I can say here is those “personalities” at Channel 13 are lucky that ABC’s highest rated show isn’t wrestling with alligators. I can just imagine the outcome with Holly Maynard versus a hungry gator. Anyone for seconds?
