The first day of 950 ESPN: Your Thoughts on it

Hello. I would like to get your thoughts on the first day of 950 ESPN (WPEN-AM). What do you think of the format so far, the hosts and the presentation of the radio station?

You must feel like you've died and gone to heaven. An ESPN stion in Philly, not one from Trenton pretending to be a Philly station. And, they're going to carry the Superbowl, the World Series, the NBA finals, the NCAA championships, etc...

I have XM and Sirius, I've had ESPN Radio but, for those without sat. radio, and who don't have a TV or cable, I guess it's good that Philly will have all those games on the air.

This is a dream come true. I just hope that Greater Media doesn't screw this station up.

Hopefully, talk of Bruno coming back (even by syndication) is true. They must solidify the slot between Jody Mac and Mike Miss. Does Dan Patrick stay? If so, why even bother shifting the affiliation? Dropping FOX for ESPN doesn't make a lick of sense, unless Bristol paid GM for clearance.

The only time I got to listen yesterday was at 5 in the morning. They were running some very lame show from the Sporting News network, not ESPN.

Day two, and I'm already tuning elsewhere, expect for Jody Mac and Missanelli. I'll "linger longer" if Bruno comes on board.

Patrick was on last night on 950 AM. I wished the station drop his show now, otherwise the ESPN format will not last long on 950 AM in my opinion.

It still needs work

IMO They should partner Jody Mac with Missanelli from 3-7, Neither host has the talent to carry a show by themselves.

Hire Bruno for the midawy shift

Then it becomes a ratings war!

I agree that Mac and Miss would be better with a partner. But if I bring in a partner, I am bringing in a younger, lesser known guy that Mac and Miss can turn into names in this market.

Someway, Somehow, they need to GET RID OF TIRICO SHOW....Horrible..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

I agree Mike Tirico is awful....but here is the deal....

As an ESPN Radio affiliate you are REQUIRED, to carry a certain amount of hours of ESPN Syndicated programming.

Mike and Mike is a MUST. And Tirico is as well.

LOOK at 1050 ESPN in New York, ESPN 1000 in Chicago, they both carry Mike and Mike and Tirico.

What they should add locally is a local show from 11pm-2am and/or a local over night show from 2a-6a.

And of course some local shows on weekends.

Although I would love to have Bruno on from 1-3pm.

But Mike and Mike is a must, sad but true

Sorry, but as part of the ESPN mandate, 950 must clear it. Hey, it could be worse, 950 could be airing "The Herd"... :-X

Dan Patrick still on WPEN

I'm still puzzled as to why WPEN is still airing the tape delayed broadcast of the Dan Patrick show. Live ESPN programming or local sports talk programming should be airing instead of Patrick in my opinion. I'm trying not to criticize the station but I would like them to drop this show.

I actually like the Herd, I think its the best show on ESPN radip. However, it wouldn't work in Philly, to much College. Putting on a taped DP show is better then anything they would have to pay. I left the Phillies game tonight and was listening to the unlistenable Locker Room, the Phillies were brutal tonight and they cant muster a call on the game, even while WIP has on a Flyers game.

How can WPEN recycle Harry Mayes after being a failure in the midday and bring Dan Schwartzman, nobody listened to him on ESPN 920 and nobody will a few clicks up the dial either....bad hire....how can PEN think that is a suitable show. Schwartzman is the kinda guy who just tries to hard and isn't entertaining at all...and has Harry ever had an opinion that a caller didnt give him?

Give me Dan Patrick any day over those two minor market talents.
