The First Format Change of 2006

99.3 (LA KALLE) has flipped formats from Spanish Urban to Mexican gold. It sounds like the new format is going straight after 101.9 LA PRECIOSA.

I credit lvradiovet who from day 1 predicted the Reggaeton format on 99.3 would not last. This switch is good news for both KLUC and especially HOT 97.5. Most of the displaced LA KALLE listeners will switch to the rhythmics.

This is now Recuerdo station #12.

Is it a network like Preciosa is?

Some shows are networked (just as the 4 Am to 11 AM show on KISF is) and the rest is local.

Is KLSQ still running Recuerdo as well? It would seem a bit redundant to have two stations running the same format.

Looks like a good move by Univision; seems Hurban is quickly becoming the "Jammin' Oldies" of Hispanic-targetted radio. Works in some places (Chicago's WVIV comes to mind), but fails in others.

KLSQ was Recuerdo in name only. It is news, talk, sports and 60's oldies. It is now named radio Variedades.

Vegas was doing very well, but strategically and demographically, recuerdo was a better option.

It has been RadioCadena Univision with part news, talk and sports for over 2 years.

Las Vegas already has a fulltime Spanish language talk station...AM 1340 KRLV.

Are 1340 and 1230 KLAV now co-owned? If so, who bought who? I noticed they are both in the old Clear Channel building on East Desert Inn.

No numbers. KLSQ has been a combination of talk, sports and music for several years.

KRLV is partly brokered and has, last I listened, a lot of irrelvant shows out of Mexico.

KLAV and KRLV are co owned.

Thanks for the props Jay...I think reggaeton can probably work..it's just going to be a 2 to 3 share station and that's about it. As far as who benefits from Kalle flipping...I'm not sure...the numbers for LUC and VEG are not that much different than they were before Kalle came on...They've both been in the high-3's to low 4's for what seems like an eternity...

Any ideas on who will flip next? There's the KDWN rumor...the STAR rumors have seemingly died...KKLZ?
