Cool 100 supplied live coverage and interviews with police, gov't officials and charities; as the diaster unfolded, Tuesday Night, all day/night Wednesday and into Thursday. We stayed live and out on location giving updates and passing along evacuation information, boil water advisories and road closures. We covered two of the visits of the governor and the stop by Clinton and Schumer.
The Visions-Cool Building on Upper Court Street became a base of operation, as it was one of the few eastside buildings in complete operation. As power and phone service came and went in many other buildings as water covered neighborhoods... Cool's service comes from the State Hospital grid, and remained unaffected, even as NYSEG turned off Court Street. So many outlets... the Police, Highway Dept, WBNG-TV, CNN, MSNBC all found home in our parking lot and we helped with bottled water, bathrooms and twice a phone.
Despite the no travel restrictions, Cool and I know WBNG-TV for sure stayed on the roads and we actually almost became the news as the Chenango River punched through the Front Street levee while we sat at the light at Front and Prospect Streets, within minutes that joint gave and nearby streets flooded with 18-24 inches of water.
Our coverage continues... Saturday we passed along all the gov't press releases and Sunday the Bill Flynn Show stepped it up and had phone interviews with several key officials. Today we've continued to pass along what we know in regards to services and openings and into the cleanup phase where people can get help and clean-up kits.
