THE FORMAT OF THE FUTURE - WHAT WILL IT BE?

Joseph_Gallant said:
How about a nationally-syndicated "Show Business And Hollywood Gossip" format with phone-in talk shows on these topics, twice-hourly updates on showbiz and gossip, weekly phone-in talk shows talking about top-rated TV reality shows that would air immediately after those shows are broadcast, and simulcasts of the sound portions of major awards shows??

hmm. Blink... and you'll miss it.

The format of the future is already here for many stations, it sounds like this " ".

Dead air.

Nahhh it's more like this---

"Sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss"

And, it sounds better on first-adjacent frequencies of HD-ready FM stations!

On AM it will be more like---

"Ssssss-crackle-sssss-crackle-bzzz-ssss-crackbzzz-ssssss"

DOA. The talk audience in general is aging out of the demo. There will be no new conservative talkers. We're just waiting for the current crop to burn themselves out.

BigA knows this business, Pat. If he say's the audience is aging out, I believe him. But I would add too that the Talk genre has publicly shot itself in the foot in the marketplace of ideas, and that collectively, listeners have tired of all the hostility.

My own take-- Talk Radio has finally veered into the proverbial ditch. This happened because it morphed from being an intellectual forum for debating ideas into a soapbox of clashing selfrighteous. Both sides are hopelessly engaged in self ordained claims of keepers of the nation's moral high ground. Doesn't matter anymore who's on; listening to today's 'Talk" makes me sick.
