For those who haven't heard, Urban Radio flipped 97.9 to hip hop and moved the gospel format to 1450 AM, thus ending Fox Sports' days in Meridian. Of course, judging by the Arbs, no one even noticed nor cared that it was there in the first place.
 
Yeesch!  That's very sad indeed.  :'(

Hope Urban Gospel will do well on 1450 AM.

Now if WZNJ 106.5 FM from Demopolis, (60 Miles east of Meridian, in West Alabama) would do their own wheel spining and ditch this Adult Urban boredom, that would make me excited and stoked.  ;D

I would be very disgusted if, their sister station, WINL 98.5 FM were to ditch Country and switch to some Urban flavor of the month.  :mad:

To Jack FM, hope you're station will continue to have success.  When I able to tune in, I find myself loving it.  Your presentation is so unique and wonderful.  Wish we had more stations like yours.

Wait... Jack FM has success? Wow. I'd sure love to know where and how. They're pretty much in the cellar and I know for a fact that they aren't billing, er jack. Remember Robert The Button Pusher? I don't care what kind of spin Ken Michaels and company put on it, he left because they couldn't afford to pay him. If the rumor I've been hearing is correct, don't look for Jack to be around much longer. Word is they're going to flip but I haven't heard to what yet.

The variety hits format is a fad. Like any other fad it's time will pass eventually. Jack FM of the Meridian market is on its death bed... in all honesty, it never really got out of the nursery. "Oh, we have lots of listeners; they just don't get the diaries." Yeah, sure...

Urban is just what there name is..formats, hip hop, urban ac,urban gospel.they do pretty well with them.Much to my chagrin, hip hop has moved into the mainstream .blacks and whites dig it and that's cool for them.years ago when Q101 was mainstream top 40, they were at the top of their game.Urban Radio has few live morning shows, get the hint??i really enjoy the Jack format but not sure how much staying power it will have.even notice where a couple of Jacks have gone back to oldies.Nothing has had the staying power of those darn 60's and up to mid 70's songs Just plain dam incredible..I don't believe you'll be hearing some of these hip hop tunes 40 years later.Cheers.....
 
It's cool PW, Kevin and the Urb group rolled into Meridian, and HOGGED up all the SUPERADIO products.... i was inquiring about some shows for a friend, and was told Kevin and the Urb, got ACE and TJ, Open House Party, and Romeo for nights...basically the whole dang SUPERADIO CHR line-up... lol so, if smokey is the one bashing me and Jack, i'm totally ashamed of him (sike)... so i did hear the same thing.

Truthanddisaster,[EDIT] doesnt have any clue as to what hes talking about when it comes to Jack FM. I know your crew over there works hard. And Ironically, the fact that Q was replacing [EDIT]with a syndicated night show wasn't a surprise to me as I heard it from someone else in the market.

104.9 clearly has the bigger signal. If Q was so good, why'd they move it to a frequency far inferior to 101.3?

P.S. Robert got canend cuse he wasn't doing his job... it wasn't cuse they couldn't pay him. We know you and he are buddies.... so he'll tell you whatever he wants you to hear... I wonder why you couldn't get hired at Z102 back in 1999? Fort Wayne was a fluke...

This is exactly why i don't play the post game on this site. I'm not downing the site, but Doug had it right. Looking over this thread again, it makes no dang since. Parts are deleted, edited, or whatever the nice people in management have to do (due to TOS for the site, i guess) but, i just find it hard to believe they let someone come on and totally dog out my name, and 104.9 Jack FM... and that post remains untouched. Rather annoying? ;) rumors, liable, babble is fine, but throw the meat on the table and it vanishes "POOF!" I totally agree with you Ron, i sure have alot more to do with my time than post rumors back and forth... with my whopping 15 posts since like December, guess i'm not a VIP... har har har ....we'll i just talked to our GM and we decided to do our own "YAK AT JACK" message board... he got it up in 15 minutes...

I didn't know that about SAM 93.5.  I can sometimes get that station, when the conditions are right.  Hope they'll have success with their new format.

Jack still knows a thing or two about radio. :D  At least they're not like that boredom called WZNJ from Demopolis Alabama. ???

Well Well Well, here we go again... for those of you who know me in the MERIDIAN market... u know I'm pretty much of a laid back dude... and I don't step on toes... but come on guys this is gettin out of hand... The thing of all these rumors is just that.... FRICKIN RUMORS... we all know the truth with our individual stations... The only problem I got is what the heck is someone from S.C. commenting in a Mississippi chat board. Paul Walker.. don't know you and u may be the coolest jock IN SOUTH CAROLINA, but to come here and talk good or bad about any station in the Meridian market.. well dude unless u live here and maybe u did at ONE TIME... but I see where u can neither comment. Yeah dude I could see where u might know some stuff about URBAN, RADIO PEOPLE, CLEAR CHANNEL..etc that's fine & dandy but I don't see where your opinions really matter in this market when noone here seems to know who you are but a select few... where in the heck is that town your from anywayz?.. Dude not bashing you because I don't know you.. but hopefully you can see our point. KEN.. dude have to say you have impressed me... I remember when you worked down the hall here and I see your pursuit in radio has succeeded.. For that CONGRATS... You know I live right down the road from your parents right?...LOL.. And for those that don't know..How do you think I feel... My best friend (Lee Taylor) is working across the way, but yet I don't go bashing him nor his company, or any for that fact. Again I have worked most of them here.. and I truly can say that if I really wanted to go back to any of them.. I PROBABLY could.. So this is the way I see it.. this maybe all fun and games.. but some have taken it personally, totally uncool, I like competition just as much or better than anyone else, but come on guys.. again... the people you bash... If they are, it's by the "Grace of God".  I say that because their station often ranks at the bottom, when the ratings are released.

P.S. Hope they won't give up and shut down.  To anyone that works at WMER and may be reading, keep on Preaching the Good News to Meridian. There will be great reward for you, if you persevere and not give up.
 
i don't think the ratings are what drives a station like that - if you're a christian-oriented station, typically the donations will get you through - hopefully!

Is it possible for a station like that to gain a foothold in that area, if it were changed to to a talk/news format?

Any room for that in Meridian?
 
There are already two news/talkers (WMOX and WALT) and that's probably one too many.

Who owns WMER now? I heard Mike sold it some time ago.
 
It's been a few months since CC left Meridian,so what's it like to work for Urban radio? I have noticed a few people have left.Did they leave on their own or were the fired? Just asking.

i tried going to your website to say howdy but it was down temporarily. It is rather interesting how the bs stays on the chatboard and the truth magically disappears. Anyway enough about the rumor starters...I stopped by the station in Forest a while back to tell you hey, your brother was there instead !!! Hope all is going well for you and family!! send me an e-mail sometime, [email protected] , take care..ohh this is greg kelly...remember me? lol maybe a clue would be helpful...think back to a time when you were still in school & visiting 97okk at night !!!
