So what will a spin on the format wheel end on for Eagle 106.7? Could stunting start as soon as 5:00 p.m.?

I know Rodney says Oldies and Talk might be in play. What would talk station sound like on 106.7? I don't count 105.3 as a Real attempt at FM Talk.

*Defined as any pop music from the 1950s through the pre-disco 70s.

Note that ANY of these formats (except talk, of course) could get away with voicetracking.

There is not enough talk talent in this town to fill a talk format.You would not have a choice but to syndicate. There are a lot of out of work jocks, but there are even fewer local talk hosts to pick from with experience. I can't even think of 2 off the top of my head.

Larry and Eric are probably younger than all three of them but the difference they fit the demo. 50 year old people do not fit the alt rock demo and scream this is a cool station.

0:0 are the exact odds. Leslie and Steve are still under non-compete til July (confirmation needed). If Citadel were to put an Alternative station on 106.7, they would have to do it without 99X staffers since they are all under contract in one way to another to Cumulus. In Atlanta, an Alternative station without 99X'ers is like Krystal with round hamburgers.


To the poster who thinks Rock 100.5 went with old jocks:
Larry and Eric are in their early-mid 40's. I am sure Rodney can tell you the exact time and date of Larry's B-day.
Andy Lowe is 35-38.
Erin Watson claims to be 23, though I think she may be about 3-5 years older.
Matt Jones is 33-35.

Until early January, Andy and Matt were part of the hip station.

i would guess another mexican station at 106.7. we need another because as with lawyers we dont have enough.
why would they want to rebuild a station around old man fram when no one save inside was listening for the past few years?

I loved 99x. Moved here in 95 set Preset 1 to 99x and never changed it. Alternative is a dead format. It is not a hit anywhere in the nation. The music machine isn't pumping out that type of music anymore and certainly not promoting it. And don't say Leslie and Steve can find it because even in their heyday the majority of the playlist was mainstream. They spent many years living off of REM, RHCP, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters, Weezer etc. I am pretty sure neither of them per se found them. When 99x was cooking you found plenty of their bands on charts, debuting at no. 1 etc. That hasn't happened in a long time. Where it does happen now is on the music that q100 plays that is why they had higher ratings and took the stick too.

Leslie's usefulness on the air left when Barnes left. A horrible fit with Toucher. Like the mom in the corner ready to smack you one when you screw up. I would have preferred Touch and Axl. Jimmy was great in the day when he was irritant causing trouble or pulling off some stupid stunt, not the later years when he lost his hunger and his paychecks exploded. He mostly became another mic. The station probably would have remained a little more relevant had they kept Rich around. He was a talent and never understood why the let him go. Huge mistake that I think actually helped lead to the downfall of the morning show and in the end without a good morning show as a foundation the station fell. That is why Rock 100.5 is smart TRG is a strong foundation to build a station. These guys were never fired over ratings and with Southside Steve back this show is going to rise again. I will laugh if it ever starts beating the ratings Bert got on the same frequency.

Steve on a morning show, really? What skills has he ever shown that would make him a good fit for that. Haven't we already had that with Sean and trying to capture the glory days. Steve was fine in his slot but I think most know he doesn't work well with others on air and I can not see him thriving in that spot.

Now put these guys on Dave with it's older audience and a lot of former 99x listeners and that's a different story but Leslie,. Jimmy, Steve on an alternative station? Forget it. they would be gone within the first contract.

The PD's and suits did listen to the listeners. They listened to them running away to iPods and to Project 96.1. The ratings weren't there and they pulled a plug be glad you had the opportunity to be a part of it and how it shaped your youth but the glory days are gone. Stop living in the past and always wear sunscreen.

I read a quote from Buckcherry the other day and he was talking about his latest release just went Platinum after more than a year. He said that was like selling 5 million copies 5 - 10 years ago. Point being this kind of music doesn't sell records anymore.

So winning a Grammy means you're a hit? Hmmm... last time I checked only industry insiders vote for the Grammy's. Didn't Herbie Hancock just win Album of the year? I don't seem to recall hearing his latest singles on Top 40 radio anywhere... but since he won the Grammy ...

Indeed, as do Top 40 stations when they have a hit single. Star 94 played "Big Me" back in the day.

This is because Foo Fighters are a mainstream rock band, selling many CDs and downloads as well as concert tickets, and they're on just about every award show produced.

The only reason Alternative was ever alternative in the first place is because when that whole fad started, mainstream radio was full of dance and synth acts. Guitars were out of vogue unless you were Aerosmith, making rock the "alternative."
