The Fox Does Nothing For Labor Day Weekend

Most area Rock stations programmed specialty programming for the Labor Day weekend:

Rock92: "No Repeat Weekend"

93.3/The Planet: "FourPlay Weekend"

106.5/The End: "Block Party Weekend"

Even Oldies106.1 programmed an "Endless Summer" weekend.

Meanwhile, the so-called "Best Classic Rock in Charlotte" programmed the same lame, predictable, dumbed-down, smug, complacent.

Even VH1Classic programmed "80 Hours of the 80's!"

It amazes me how the ratings could be so high for the Fox. This station hasn't changed much at all. I hardly ever listen to them any more myself.

I don't blame them for doing nothing. Most times the audience doesn't understand theme weekends. I always got calls for something that didn't even remotely relate to what we were doing.

It also might have something to do with the jocks wanting to cut their voice tracks and get out for the weekend.

Hey, it's Mr.Bill from The Fox. I can answer all 3 posts.

Post#1 We did a "40 years of Led Labor Day weekend". A cool cut from Led Zeppelin at the top of every hour all weekend to celebrate their 40th anniversary. Sounded great, sorry you misssed it! Why blow off your audience with something your not, on one of the biggest weekends of the year? If this market had PPM, I'll bet alot of these "specialty weekends" would disappear real quick.

Post#2 Audience satisfaction = good ratings. We all go up and down like the tide sometimes, but according to my records, The Fox has been a rock steady horse for a long time. Outside of WBT, Power 98 and WSOC, not many can claim YEARS of consistant ratings. I'm proud to be a part of that! The Fox is not programmed for music geeks or radio folks like us, but for the regular guys and the ratings show it's still working. 22 years strong!

Post#3 You nailed it. 95% of the audience wouldn't get. See above about blowing off your audience...
And it had nothing to do with voicetracking. I had to work today. It ain't all VT as some would lead you to believe. I still man the phones 2p-6:45 daily. I believe in being in touch and available for your listeners. It's help me keep this gig for 12 years now.

Y'all keep up the lively conversations!
