The Freakin' Deacon

Yo Scott, the next time you bring your happy azz to Columbia and don't holla at yo boy, well you don't want to know! How 'bout them Cocks! 9-3 this season...check out GoGamecocks.com. As for the Deacon..never met him, but heard him, damn that boy was good...still is! Holla back people!

Hey Scott we are doing pretty good... I have decided to take the plunge into internet radio ownership lol... Me and a friend have started KCLRClearRadio..... Shewwwww had to be careful with those "Clear" names LOL... We are hoping to launch August 8th. Heck since stations here in Rockford don't want a blind boy doing anything I will just take it to the net... Was wanting to come south for the fall and visit, but airfare this go around is about 170 bucks higher than it was fo fly into Col this time so I guess I will spend week off here in good ole' Rockford... If ya wanna check out our little project the link is www.kclrclearradio.com/station. CC1

Hey SSummers, refering back to your earlier post about listening to airchecks with your girlfriends...I've found that girls like jingle demos a little better.....(LOL)

Jam or TM Century? C'mon, man, don't hold anything back now that you cracked the "door" open.

Jingles? Now they tell me.

Hey Boobie,Let me jump in here!......surprise!!!
Rumors of my demise are totally exaggerated......I hope.
My ears er' eyes were burning,so I thought I would bully my way into this site to thank you scalawags(especially Summers) for the mini-roast and ''what happened to''segment on my FUN DAYS on Grand Strand Radio. First of all, Scott Summers has to be the Grand Poopah of practical ''on air'' jokes and I, the #1 unexpecting recipient. But Sweet Daddy Deacon is still breathing and as they say,''Paybacks are Hell!!''
Pray to God I never work in the same building with you again,Summers.....yer butt is mine! Ha!
Seriously, that was a wonderful time, when radio was real fun...with real personalities. I hope that cycle returns so we can get back to real radio. Until then.....I'm in hibernation.
Appreciate the nice comments, guys! Yer the best!
Ciao
Freakin' Deacon (former M.B.Radiomeister)

SWEET DADDY!!!!!! What in the hell have you been doing, you scalawag!?!?!?! Check your MySpace page, I've been requesting your dried up ass as a friend for months now. You're right, buddy, radio THEN was when it was FUN...especially the time I switched the Mother Fletcher's cart with one full of burps and farts and reverb!!! You were playing the album version of 10cc "I'm Not In Love". "BEST SONG EVER, SUMMERS!! DON'T YOU FORGET IT! LISTEN RIGHT HERE...THE WAY THEY HARMONIZE ...LISTEN, SUMMERS!!!!" BBRWWAAAPPPPPPPP!!!!!!

Priceless, man, priceless.

Love ya and miss ya, Deac.

I spoke to Deacon at length last night for the first time in almost 10 years. Sweet Daddy's still got it, I tell you. Anyone who wants to "flesh" out the history of WKZQ and its phenomenal run in the 70s leading up to the 80s, Deacon would be the one to ask. I don't see many legendary personalities actually engage on this site, so this might be an rare opportunity to see how the "magic" happened in the early days of the Q. If you have questions for Deacon, I'll make sure that old crotchety loon checks this site and answers.

EDIT:

Oh, almost forgot, just to give you the gist of his humor, Deac emailed me last night and said after reading all the nice "stuff"(my word, not his) everyone wrote about him on Radio-Info.com, he was going to give himself an autograph.

It is a shame that we do not have personalities like him in radio anymore. I wish that we could go back to those good old days where we had real personalities rather than the homogonizised stuff that we are getting from corporate radio these days.

<ding ding> its's the boobie bell. Deacon, Bob Scarborough and the boys have started qrockradio.com. Check it out. And of course there can never be enough great memories of that old reprobate Freakin Deacon. I woke up with him every morning. Not only was he close with my family but when he broke the worlds record for kissing, the last 'female' he kissed was our female wooly monkey at the Guiness Hall Of World Records. I still have the pic and I bet Deac would have loved to have some purelle back then. Deacon IS the best and check him out on qrockradio.com

I played an aircheck of the Deacon on the air before me at Sunny 106.5 one Saturday to some folks at work the other day. It is always amazing to me, being from the era of what I like to call "real radio", to play airchecks of Deac and watch them universally go "Wowwwww!!! That's radio!!" I always wished I had the spontaneity he has. Ok, you can give yourself another autograph, Deac heehhehe. I think I gave that Orban 111-C reverb to Kemo when the new guy came in and had me blow up the processing chain to something that was ..... only average.... I even took my mike processing back home. (can't have my original symetrix & la-4, handzz-off!) he told me to "throw them into the dumpster". I lost your phone # (again), Deac, sorry :-(
