I have to wonder if Fred is being primed to replace Elvis Duran whenever he retires if he ever does.I wonder why the Fred Show was chosen over Elvis Duran?
Fred is 45 years old. Elvis is in his 60s. You're not building a long-term growth strategy around him at this point. And sadly it's probably a matter of time before Fred relocates from Chicago to New York.I have to wonder if Fred is being primed to replace Elvis Duran whenever he retires if he ever does.
I think Seacrest is a different case than Elvis. Elvis is only radio famous. Seacrest is a celebrity on all media. And he's one of those celebrities like Samuel L. Jackson who geniunely enjoys working hard.I will be curious to see the succession plan for both Elvis and Seacrest. Ryan has been hosting both AT40 and the KIIS mornig show for 22 years and change now. That's just one year shy of Rick Dees' run on KIIS mornings.
Casey had a 34 year run on CHR countdowns if you combine the original Watermark/ABC run with the Westwood One years and then the AT40 2.0 era with AMFM/Premiere. And I'd argue he stayed on CHR a little too long, especially since he was doing 3 separate shows for 3 formats for so many years.
Elvis probably could "retire" from Z100 and hold a big celebration - then get a second wind doing AC or Classic Hits locally like Scott Shannon did.Fred is 45 years old. Elvis is in his 60s. Seacrest probably won't let it go - but he is a big media name beyond radio and advertisers will likely be kinder to him.Rick Dees couldn't let it go. Matty Siegel in Boston couldn't let it go. Top 40 or any currents based radio can be like heroin.
Elvis is 100% CHR his flagship station is the legendary Z100. Ryan fits for CHR Pop his flagship is KIIS in LA.There are many markets where Elvis should switch over to the hot a/c or even a/c. And time to freshen up the CHR in market. And, take Ryan Seacrest with him.
Speak of the devil, he just announced his retirement.Dave Ryan on KDWB/Minneapolis must be well into his 60s, and he's still relevant.
