Sure, it sounds hip hop... Did you listen to the words?
What were you expecting, organs and choirs?

I'm by far not an expert in "Christian rock and hip hop", but that's supposedly what they're playing at "Freq 107".

Presumably, for those who are into the music, it's supposed to sound the same as the secular stuff, much like you could mistake Cleveland's "95.5 The Fish" for an AC station if you didn't go through the lyrics. That's the whole point of the station - attract listeners with a "positive" message, which isn't necessarily always "biblical", but is not the usual stuff you hear on secular rock and hip hop stations.

It's not meant to "hit you over the head" with sung Bible verses.

It's all being put together by the folks who do the Christian rock show "Whip of Cords", which ran on 107.1 when it was doing CCM a few years ago.

I dont have the ablitity to listen to them not living in the area but my understanding they play a lot of Christian Rock artists, stuff you would find on the Christian R&R Rock Chart, and reguards to it not being Christian, check out stations like RadioU and EffectRadio, that have been doing a simular format (except maybe with a little more Christian focus -- blurps about God etc) -- Ofcourse since I cant hear Freq 107, I cant reallly judge/comment on their format.

The format is simular to a Christian AC station that focuses on the whole "safe for the family deal" while Rock stations ofcourse dont do that focus, these stations typically dont air "preaching" programs, and a lot of ministry, they let the lyrics of the songs impact the listeners.

The guy doing Whips of Cords, Does an awesome job and I am sure he is doing an awesome job with the music at 107.

Guess you haven't listened long enought to hear the sermonettes aimed at the teenage age group they are trying to attract. They usually end with the tag line "We didn't tell you this was going to be easy".

OK.... what is this station? Call letters and city of license anyone?

WEXY, 107.1 FM, Greenville, PA.

Close. :D

Legal calls: WEXC. The "WEXY 107" on-air name and former oldies format has officially been transferred to WLOA/1470 Farrell PA, and 107.1's sister station, WGRP/940 Greenville PA (when the latter is up and operating).

Note that neither station sports the WEXC(AM) calls...

Damnit--you get the on-air slogan in your head, and this is what happens.

WEXC is correct. I Apologize for the confusion.

I was EXTREMELY fortunate to catch them this past Saturday afternoon thanks to WRQK's (106.9 'Rock 107') misfortune of having been knocked off the air. I'm in the Akron market some 58 or so air miles away from their signal which at 3kW, doesn't approach these parts without a little help from the Troposphere! I taped the format which I found to be rather unique and way way different from 95.5 The Fish WFSM. I hope that they will stream online at some point. No one else has the Christian CHR/Rap- thing nailed yet. Best of luck with the flip.

I also noticed they were off the air for a while... what happened?

It is most definitely different from 95.5 The Fish (WFHM). I'm not a big fan of the Amy Grant & Michael W. Smith every hour, and also wish they'd cycle in more hotter music. But oh well. The format is very different.

I would beg to differ with the Christian CHR comment. I think if you check out M88 from Albuquerque or RadioU from Columbus, OH, you'd see that there are some stations out there that do a good job already with the format. Both stream online.

My college dorm is near Freq 107, and I listen to it "freq"uently. If you want a recording, let me know. I could try and grab you one off my RadioShark (if I find it).
