The Fun begins Friday!

There really isn't anything too exciting about 104.1 the Beat. Watch out Jamz 95.7 or that transalator will get you.

The Lance Venta blog has really been on it with these types of developments. Apparently, the 104.1 translator that Richardson Broadcasting has used to simulcast WJLD 1400 has now shifted to relaying WMJJ-HD2, which is now 'The Beat'.

Checking the WJLD website, still at wjldfm.com, most of the prominent mentions of 104.1 have been scrubbed (some '104.1 WJLD' logos still appear on the archives and the live streaming player).

I wonder what kind of deal (if any) Gary Richardson is getting from Clear Channel, as one wouldn't expect an AM broadcaster to cede an FM translator lifeline like that.

I have been listening to the JLD translator for the last hour or so and it is still rebroadcasting WJLD's R&B oldies format. It was still doing so after 5 pm...the TOH ID mentions WJLD-AM but nothing in regards to the translator call sign or location. ???

***never mind..."The Beat" just arrived... :D

Anyone know if The Beat is a custom job or just one of CC's iheartradio feeds?

I was previously listening to the iHeartRadio feed via Magic's HD2 page, figuring 'All My Jams' would be the closest format used, a feed that leaned more Urban AC more than mainstream urban/hip-hop. I never heard any IDs, though I suppose it'd be no problem to add them from the closet they're running this station from.

I'd imagine this is (or will be) a 'Premium Choice'-fed channel like Clear Channel's new translator urban in Lexington, KY.

EDIT (6:16 PM): The website (www.1041beat.com) is now live, still waiting on a live stream.

Funny you posted this. Just today I was listening to "Foggy Mountain" on WKSJ-HD2 and wondered if CC had any of those Iheartradio HD-2 feeds on translators? (Brainstorming since Mobile and Pensacola appear to have new translators on the way) I think CC is commercial free on HD-2 stations, but that doesn't apply to ones feeding an analog translator... they put HD stations on analog translators to make money from the commercials. So I assume no translators carry IHeartRadio stations (were the called "Format Lab" stations last year?)

Do any of you know of a translator carrying a commercial free HD-2 simulcast?

This one deserves it's own thread... but has anyone run across a non-commercial/NPR HD-FM station using an analog translator for one of their HD-2 feeds yet?

I'm pretty sure I've heard of a translator somewhere, maybe up in the northeast, doing non-comm HD2 on a translator, but for the life of me I can't dig up any proof. Dunno about any commercial free iHeartRadio feeds or anything like that. AFAIK the iHeartRadio feeds can be overlayed with local inserts and commercials, but no idea if that's done in house with the same imaging as the stream or literally over-layed on the existing online stream.

Foggy Mountain happens to be on in Birmingham as well, and is the only HD-2 run by Clear Channel currently NOT being fed to a translator that I know of. It's just a matter of time before they get something for that HD2 feed, IMHO.

I was gonna write up my thoughts on the Mobile translator scene, but I'm starting another thread on that.

Don't know if you ever listen to Foggy Mountain on WKSJ but they are overlapping IDs all the time. That old DJ will be talking while a Dolly Pardon thanks us for listening in the background. This has been going on for a while.. sounds like something a forgotten small town AM would do, but it doesn't affect the music at all.

I saw the thread (perhaps in a Freudian way mistyped that word 'threat' originally) the fun begins Friday, and I thought it was going to refer to the upcoming tax-free weekend.

Should nevertheless be a short time bonanza for ad sellers - most every store of any kind is gonna want you inside this upcoming weekend. I know I'll be there. But I ramble, again.

The translator is on WMJJ-HD2, A translator in Birmingham is much too valuable to be given away as Nate Wesley suggested. I would bet you Richardson got pretty good deal. The license is still in Richardson Broadcasting, I guessing this is some type of lease or LMA agreement.

No one else has brought this up yet, so I will… how is this little signal going to reach the monied white kids in the suburbs who listen to rap? ;D

HD-equipped Zunes, of course!
