The Future Of 107.9

Any predictions on what Beasley will do with KVGS when they take over? Will they stick with the alternative format? Will they go Hot AC and go straight after KMXB? I can't see them doing a FRESH Warm AC type format since they failed with it recently....although that was before PPM. How about a REWIND 80/90s retro format?

When it comes to Beasley, it is easier to predict what they won't do, and I'd be willing to bet they won't leave it Alternative, as they don't have much experience with the format. Analogy: KKLZ was the #1 rock station in the market among men 25-44 in early 2005, but instead of capitalizing and expanding, they began taking steps to ditch the format. A look at their 39 stations reveals that only two are listed as "Classic Rock," and both play more of an Active Rock blend of 80's bands, unlike KKLZ's former style, which included lots of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Boston, etc. In other words, they had no experience with that style of format, so they flipped it to something they're far more familiar with.

Beasley owns only one Alternative station. If I was working at 107.9, I wouldn't like the odds.

And KKLZ has been among the top 3 stations 25-54 almost every month since PPM launched - so guess it was better to be the only Classic Hits station than the second Classic Rock.

BTW, "Men 25-44" is not a demo that advertisers buy.

Beasley has Classic Rock stations in Coastal Carolina, Ft. Myers, FL, and Classic Rock/Hits hybrid in Fayetteville, NC.

Yes, those were the two stations I was referring to, in mentioning that only two of their 39 stations are Classic Rock. I was merely stating facts about the 2005 ratings, and that demo was certainly still desirable for the LV market at that time.
