I lean more toward print media... ie. I depend on you radio experts for advice.
My personal theory: The new sports radio station, in the Triangle, will only last a short time.
I don't think the parent company, really wants to invest, in an AM station. If guy who owns SAS/WRAL-TV/DaBulls... starts a new project... He wants to make millions. AM, sports radio, in this size market... ain't worth the time.
The countrymusak format, did not wk out for them... I think they simply want four guys (they have not invested in wkend programming, or hosts)... to kinda- hold down the fort... til they find something that will wk better on FM.)
BottomLine: Is the parent company committed to make this thing 'big?'
