The Future of AM in NWF??

Aside from a few stations, a lot of FM translators have popped across the board, what will this do to AM here in NWF? My question is, will it go on? I can easily see, if WAAZ goes for sale, WEBY purchasing it, thus, ending the need for a 25KW AM station.

WFTW can be put on 105.5, Country 96.5 (to compete with WHWY) and 93.3 could become Mix 93, or 93Q. (The Coast brand is kinda dull)

With the limits on AM nighttime status down here, I can very easily see this happening. (but doubtful)

Could this be a possible future?

Just my two cents..

Rob - I thought AM was the future just two weeks ago! what happened?

Talking exclusively about the Panhandle that already has a station on every FM frequency:

Are Translators enough to bail out AM down there? It's like having a flashlight on a tower instead of a pretty, bold, sexy strobey. Whose gonna see it?

Rumored plans: ROB AM in beautiful IBOC. Simulcast in 106.1 to avoid duplication. The 1 watt translator @ 30 feet (no strobeys needed) in Gulf Shores will also carry the simulcast. the stereo light will remain on for a glorious mono effect. WJSB will also carry ROB FM ahhh AM during Auburn football.

Haha! Good one!!

I do think a strobey might just have to go up on that 30 footer AND rob could sit there all night turning it on and off for effect. Or is that affect. What color would it be if u could pick a color, rob?

I got this one. If you don't know what "affect" means then just use "effect," you'll probably never need to use the word "affect" unless you know about complicated psychological stuff.

The future of AM in the Florida panhandle? Whenever the FCC allows AM stations to go dark and keep their 250 watt FM translators, perhaps under a new "class D" type license, the AM dial will start to clear out quickly. Those 250 watt translators cover way more people than "graveyard" AM stations. There probably aren't 6 AM stations in the Florida panhandle with better coverage than a 250 watt FM translator.

I told you guys, my name is taken, (both sides am & fm.. I refuse to be a part of a It Bleeds to Other Channel's side station. Listening to 95.1 is almost ruined because of 94.9 KSJ's IBOC's signal.. yuck! Besides, the equip is around what $200,000 plus??

On a side note, I've seen translators with better coverage than their AM coverage, take a look at 94.3 for example,
Their signal booms out here in the middle of nowhere. Where their AM counterpart has hardly NO signal at all, except during noon ish.

Who is they, Alex? Not the brilliant minds that sabotaged Dave FM, in ATL, hopefully. The original 98.1 Sports station The Ticket had some success in the beginning before all Hale broke loose. If done properly, this is a good move given the difficult nature of finding a music format that will work. I am hoping for a country station, myself. One can NEVER have enough of those in a market.

Was 98.1 The Ticket always LMAd to Hale or did Clear Channel ever program the station back when they owned it?

I'm not crazy, your the one that's crazy.

Cue Suicidal Tendencies and get me that Pepsi... actually, I'd prefer a coke.
