The future of Citadel stations in Birmingham

Jimc, why don't you apply since it freaks you out so bad. I like more music myself. Better than some alternatives...make that most alternatives.

load up your little mp3 player...burn a cd or whatever you do...and listen to all the music you want.

why don't you?

Question: Assuming that a morning show will eventually be hired do you think it is smarter to...

A - Give a temporary slot to whoever is available
B - Allow the music to speak for itself until the right person or show is found and prepared

I would go with option B. If you choose A you will only add more confusion when yet another change takes place. An interim period provides a sense of anticipation and a cleansing from what apparently was not what the listeners wanted. It also allows the new show to come in without a lot of comparisons to the previous show. While I certainly agree that personality trumps jukebox in the long run, that doesn't necessarily mean that there has to be a personality on the air ALL the time. Rushing to fill a hole usually ends up leading to a more costly mistake than the last one.

Funny there's no "known" candidate on staff, part-timer,etc who might fill in. Afternoon guy?

I absolutely agree Chris. Well put. As for Jimc....no sense being an a$$, it just reflects your lack of knowledge for this business and your immaturity. Like I said before, if it bothers you so much that there's not a "part-timer" filling in...why don't you apply? I'm sure you would be awesome.

OK. Just pointing out that you'd think they'd have someone on. It's not keeping me up at night I assure you.

Call me crazy (everyone else does) but "driving away listeners to other forms of entertainment" is not a good way to run a radio station.

Personal debates aside, the station needs to make a better choice this time. Hopefully, the corporate changes will help achieve that goal.

Many of us have heard that a local choice was on the short list before, with the potential of developing a marketable product. We'll see what happens the second time around. I wonder if anyone with any past success would even consider stepping into this black hole.

Sometimes you have to just get a fresh start, make good decisions, and have a "plan". Hit and miss misses more often than hits.

If Cumulus is looking to save money, wouldn't that suggest a syndicated show? Do they (or should they) bring back John Boy and Billy? The show was getting stale when they dropped it, but it still got higher numbers than Mojo. Is there any other syndicated Rock show out there that can pull in the ratings? Or, is there anybody in Birmingham who can pull in the ratings at a price Cumulus is willing to pay?
