The future of Q102

Nick Scott said:
It was told to me today that our last book was the best W25-54 book Q has had in the past 10 years. I think that says something doesn't it?
If it's a persistent trend... then it says something. A single book spike in the numbers is different. What was the trend before the last book?I'm still trying to get my head around the music selection. I heard Dire Straits followed by Kanye West, Radiohead followed by Beyonce (or something just like it), and today a block that could have been Warm 98 followed by some hardcore Usher. It almost has a Jack-ish feeling when I listen, which is to say a playlist a mile wide and half an inch deep. Obviously, if the numbers show steady growth, it's working - but I find it disconcerting. Then again, I'm not the target audience either.

I don't know if this is exactly on topic or not, but what does everyone think of Q's competition? I'm talking about MIX, KISS and WARM specifically. Do you think they have a future and if so, how is Q measuring up to them?

When Kiss came into being in the late 90s, they seemed to blow Q102 out of the water, i don't listen much to Kiss, but from younger people I know, Kiss and the Wiz seem to be their primary choices. Mix ought to close up and go home, they need a format change, I find it hard to listen to Mix, and if I hear MIXmas one more time this year during the holiday season, i think I will scream. I would say Mix is the worst sounding major station in town. Warm 98 has a proven track record for success, and if Cumulus does not tinker with them too much, they should retain their place. I always thought Q was trying to compete against Mix, but anymore they seem to going against Mix, Kiss and maybe the Wiz. The "Jack" type format mentioned above would not be bad for the Q, but I long for the days of the early to mid-80s when Q was great sounding, and was a moneymaker for Taft Broadcasting.

From what I hear from "over there" it is still quite a moneymaker. Unless they are spreading untruths.
