The future of WZZT Morrison

The future of WZZT Morrison

I remember this station--WZZT from Morrison, which is technically part of the Quad Cities radio market. Right now, "The Z"--as it so succinctly puts it--is currently affiliated with Jones' Classic Hits format. But according to wikipedia.org, that will merge with Kool Gold by Dial Global....Hey, wasn't the Z previously with Kool Gold (or whatever it was back then) before converting to Jones? Unless the owners have new plans for the station, it'll be reverting back to what it was before by the end of the year (and maybe 102.7 FM could become "Kool 103"--or something)!

Re: The future of WZZT Morrison

I remember when it carried the sydicated Z Rock format for awhile.
That was a fun station!
I'm trying to remember who the jocks were...
Debbie Dowd was afternoons

The night guy was a bit of a jerk, but even when he was a dick, he was hilarious!

That's all I remember right now.

Re: The future of WZZT Morrison

It's interesting that the station is still around under the same calls. Janet Bro and I put that station on-the-air many years ago on the 2nd floor of a downtown Morrison business. Someone must have liked the calls!

Re: The future of WZZT Morrison

If I remember correctly, the Z Rock format was on 95.1 in Morrison, with the same calls.

Re: The future of WZZT Morrison

Yes they were on 95.1, but changed frequency to 102.7. At the same time, KCLN in Clinton, Iowa moved from 97.7 to 94.7 and KMAQ-FM In Maquoketa, Iowa moved from 95.3 to 95.1

JRN's "Classic Hits" no more....

According to wikipedia.org, the classic hits format as supplied by Jones Radio Networks has been discontinued since this past Monday. My last time to hear WZZT (the Z) was last weekend. What has become of 102.7 FM? Will it convert to a different network like ABC's "Classic Hits Radio"? Will it switch to a different format? Will it hire independent local DJs to work at the station?

Re: The future of WZZT Morrison

Wikipedia is incorrect. The only formats Dial Global discontinued from the Jones side were Variety Hits, Jones Standards and Smooth Jazz.

They merged Dial Global and Jones' mainstream country (US Country and Mainstream Country), new country (CD Country and Hot Country), classic rock (Rock Classics and Adult Rock 'n Roll), oldies (Good Time Oldies and Kool Oldies), and hot AC (Hot AC and Bright AC) brands.

All of the other 24/7 formats, including all of the Waitt formats, are running as usual.

The Z as of 1/3/2009

I paid my grandparents a visit today (1/3/2009) and I checked out the WZZT. The station still brands itself as the Z, but I didn't hear any jocks. Is JRN's "Classic Hits" automated on the weekends? Maybe if I tuned in on a work day....

Re: The future of WZZT Morrison

I believe Jones classic hits is automated 24/7. Almost all, if not all, JRN formats are automated. However, it should have voicetracked jocks.

Northpine.com more accurate?

Northpine.com posted some info about this merger--that's exactly what's on there!
