THE GAME CONTINUES TO TANK

New Arbitrons show even the Preds' playoff run can't prop up a badly programmed station - they broke the 1 share barrier going south. 1.5 to 1.0 to 0.9. Also, KDF passed WSIX - the House effect is gone. And 92Q (which Cumulus doesn't want and put in the trust) is #1 with a paltry cume of 191k, while the River is #2 with a cume of more than 435k. Whatever happened to TSL?

hockey still not a big media draw...it does get a few thousand down to sip beers at the bridgestone but nowhere near NFL numbers...doubt if many listen on the radio...what's there to hear some Canadian announcers "eh" and skating and slamming up against board noises...every once in a while a horn. The GAME also has a weak signal.

That "weak signal" bit follows every discussion of the Game like a U-haul trailer follows a moving truck! ::)

When it comes right down to it, the bottom line is this. The Game will have to step it up and bring it to the table. It takes your A-Game to take ratings to the next level. You can hunt with the big dogs while staying on the porch. Next caller... .

I live in Dickson and I can't pick it up. I just moved back here and I was flipping around and noticed I didn't pick up The Party. I just found out yesterday it went sportstalk. Apparently I live under a rock.

The lineup and signal issues are basically to blame, but maybe most is that there are so many people in Bud's ear and he picks and chooses who to listen to. The hierarchy, or lack there of, is as big a fault as anything. There are too many people there who feel they have control. Bud needs to establish a firm hierarchy of leadership below him. Of course this has been happening for a long time and it probably won't change.

The morning and afternoon shows aren't very fluid. Each show needs a better direction. The morning now has three people and not one of them can really lead a show. Willy Daunic nor Gregg Pogue in the afternoon are a show leader. Gregg Pogue is closer to a show host than Willy. Together they might have a chance, but the roles are sort of reversed. They could be great with a driver in the seat with them. You need a Kevin Ingram or George Plaster in each show to really get a good flow. Darren McFarland and Brad Hopkins would be good if they had a Kevin Ingram. You have to have someone who knows where the show is going and how to drive it there. Not one person currently on the air at the Game knows how to do that. Everyone there is a good on the air in the right role. Joe Dubin isn't the answer in the morning show. He is a good piece, but isn't a show Host.

You mentioned George Plaster. Does anyone know if he is coming back to radio anytime soon. I expected him to be on the Game by now.

Last week I crossed paths with Plaz at Otter's Chicken on Demonbreun. I asked, "When are you coming back?"

Plaz pointed to a man follwing him and said, "He's working on it." Did not recognize or know the other man. Assuming he was agent or lawyer.

Most likely it's the same guy who once said, "I used to go to Otter's more than I do now. Then I found out that is just chicken they are serving."

Yes, most likely.

I noticed today that 102.5 the Game is now being simulcast on the new HD2 signal of 102.9 the Buzz. Perhaps that will be helpful for people to the SE of town and down in Murfreesboro wanting to hear the station who were unable to do so previously or who had to do so through static.

How many HD radios are out there?

I don't know, but it would be wise for an HD radio manufacturer to market a lower-end cost device for Preds fans in Rutherford County. Perhaps work a deal to set up a special display at the Best Buy in Murfreesboro, something like that to let people know about it and give them a legitimate reason to want to buy an HD radio?

I'm not saying that will happen, but it would be a logical move and I suspect would provide a good ROI for whatever manufacturer took that approach. Will it happen? We shall see.
