The Game Sports Show on Fox 17

Has anyone watched the Sports Highlights Show on Fox 17 Sunday nights featuring George Plaster, Willie Daunic and guest this year? You would think with George, Willie, Terry McCormick and Mitch Light having done the show for three years or so, someone would have told them to look into the camera when discussing the sports highlights instead of each other. After three or four seasons on Fox 17, they just come accross as being uncomfortable on camera as they did during the first season of the show. Terry McCormick just looks straight ahead to the camera like he is frozen and stiff, while Mitch Light aways turns away from the camera and towards Willie Daunic, never looking at the camera at all. You would think someone in the production booth would tell them to loosen up and not come accross so stiff and lifeless.

All Filler, No Killer.
Unfortunately all broadcast stations need content on their channels, otherwise it's just a test pattern.
That is why these kind of shows with radio people are born.
Another good reason, people have faces made for radio and not tv.

Here's the thing, I suspect George and Willie would love to make this work. I'd like to believe they would listen to input and good coaching on their presentation. I bet they sit there with little help or feedback from the station. TV is a lot different than radio and they had the guts to try but this station isn't known for paying for talent, having good talent, or improving the talent they got. They're a little CC/Cumulus in that way.
I can't pin it all on George on this one. I criticize Fox 17.

They are the most ineffective and least successful of the tv stations here even with 3 stations in their cluster (Fox CW & My). Like a few radio owners we know well the station puts spends nothing on talent and it shows. They talk like they want to take on 4 & 5 but if they were serious, they'd get serious about making George & Willie be their best. Fox 17 is so dumb they don't realize that a locally produced show that doesn't work ends up hurting even more what little image they think they have in local news/wx/sports.

I wonder what Fox 17 expects the show to do, really. But then again, their MY station does high school football on fri. You feel like students at Belmont are producing that one

Even the best radio talent sometimes finds the transition to visual media a tough road.
When we air talents were parked in the comfort of our radio studio pre-webcam days you could scratch that itch in a private spot and not worry about ending up as a viral youtube video

Now when I walk into a studio I'm mindful of the web cam ;D

I especially enjoy watching old Art Vulo Video Air-checks of the top-40 legends from days gone by. Even the best of the best back then were uncomfortable with the camera in their space....

Last night, I was watching Fox 17 The Game sports highlight show and both Terry McCormick and George Plasterhad a few critical things to say about the tweets that Vince Young sent out tweeting about Jake Locker's performance during yesterday's Titan's game against the Houston Texans. They both made remarks that it sure helpful for a NFL bust that is out of the league to be critical of Jake Locker and that neither one of them really cared for Vince Young as a player. These are two of the SAME Nashville Media Members that basically had Vince Young enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH just moments after the Titans drafted him in 2006. Talk about revisionist history!!

( 1 Good memory. And good point.

( 2 I tend to agree with Vince Young. Anyone defending the Titans at this point already look silly. While someone might make a case that Vince has an axe to grind, believe me, the titans bring no glory or honor to this city last year, this year, and probably won't next year.

Plaz and the Nashville media owe ESPN's Merrill Hoge an apology. Hoge correctly predicted a Vince Young collapse, and was soundly criticized by He For Whom This Is Not His First Rodeo.

Speaking of collapsing. One would have to wonder how viable the entire new format really is at 102.5, given the extreme overhead vs. return on investment. Bud doesn't have deep pockets like some other stations have had. The fact that Vanderbilt had has the most interesting football program this season certainly hasn't helped. It's all downhill for eight months from here. Maybe the TV part is the only silver lining? Hmmm.

is The Game close in ratings or is The Zone dominating?

These guys need to be sportscasters, not cheerleaders. I'm sure that after VY left (good riddance, BTW!), they probably said something to the effect of "I never really liked him anyway." ::) I'm guessing that they were also leading the charge when it appeared that Peyton Manning might be coming here. ::)

Both "Buds" (Adams and Walters) need to go. ::) I enjoyed 102.5 in its waning days as "the Party," and in its previous life as V-102.5.

Steve Layman on newschannel5+ is much more objective, although sometimes it can seem like he is pontificating.

Plaz is as fab as ever. The guys on the Zone try to be funny but. Other than Mark Howard there's not much to 104.5.

The Wake Up morning show is the best show on the Zone. I now live in Tx and listen to the show online. The Paul Kuharsky show is the worst and 3HL should have stayed at the noon slot.

I applaud what Plaz and company are doing on TV for sports fans in Nashville and wish I could see the show.

It takes money and smart staffs to do tv in any market, but fox 17 is a true embarrassment to the network and to this market all day every day.
And with football season ending there's not a lot of reasons to what WZTV.

In many cities the Fox O&O's are is strong, credible, and get numbers.

In this town, to try and rival some competitive spirit, Fox combines the numbers of their CW and MY station to give a combo package that just makes it cheap to be on tv.

I feel badly for George. But I also feel badly for the sales staff at channel 17 who probably know in their heart they look bush league.

WZTV is not owned by FOX, just in case someone thinks so. The control room and studio just got upgraded with the latest (people replacing) automated control room gizmos and robotic cameras.

You're right, Fox would not have an O&O in a city this size. I was noting that in cities where there is investment they do have success, but Sinclair, generally, is generally a broadcaster on a budget. And it shows here. They might have updated the control and eliminated some more people but in truth it's the programming not the equipment that gets ratings. The newest numbers for all the 3 stations in the Sinclair Nashville group really tanked. Something just doesn't add up. Their local programming looks a bit small market and the audio is lifeless.
