The Game

Not a real sports fan so I can't comment on the quality of the views of the hosts. Heard some of the late morning programming and part of Solomon's program. They were definitely talking sports, the callers were definitely long winded and Solomon seemed to side with Johnson's attempt to fleece the Titans. Production was tight so the techs know what they are doing even though the board op blew getting the first caller to Solomon's show on the air.

Tried listening for a few days and just not real impressed. Never cared for Darren McFarland as one of the supporting cast with George Plaster and care even less for him as the lead host for Morning Drive Time. So far, I have found all the host and their shows BORING!! Haven't heard the Robert Wuhl Show yet but I have always like his movies and HBO show and specials.

So far I like what I have heard. Today I listened to part of Big Joe's Podcast, didn't know he was on. My only thought: In an era where most stations are trying to spend as little $'s as possible, seems like sports talk is expensive.

Wonderful insight on the question at hand.

I'm not a huge sports fan to begin with, even less a sports talk fan.. So, this format has absolutely no appeal to me, therefore I have no reason to listen

Those of us who don't like sports formats aren't going to care for a sports formatted station. ::) However, from a board op's point of view, I loved programming sports because it was "easy money"! 8)

have tuned in a couple of times -- for me, nice to have a place to go other than 104. enjoyed Aaron the other afternoon, but there were two guys who came on after him, one who admitted he didn't know much about sports and as much as I lister to sports talk...and as little as I know the technical end, one of these 2 told the truth. I can't get 560 am in Gallatin, and there are some uneven spots on 'the game'. But I'll give em time. Dont listen to music radio anymore and can't stand political talk. (gee...I'm starting to sound like my Dad.

Expensive, yes, but it sells much better than music... and the sponsorships are a dream. Think about it: you can have the Eat at Joe's Restaurant Morning Show, coming to you live from the Auto Dealer Studio, taking calls on the Sports Shop Phone Line, etc., and then there's still commercials! Hey, you get a sponsor for a song on a music station, and you get slammed with a payola charge!

I've liked what I've heard so far on 102.5 the Game, though it faces an uphill battle against incumbent sports outlets 104.5 the Zone and 560 WNSR.

Signal strength in Murfreesboro and Rutherford County would seem to be a concern for the station once the Nashville Predators hockey season begins. But there may be a solution, as the owners of 1450 WGNS also own two FM translators in Murfreesboro:

100.5 W263AI - 250 watts - 217' HAAT
101.9 W270AF - 55 watts - 131' HAAT

What's interesting is that 101.9 appears to fall completely within the 100.5 broadcast radius, providing a number of potential opportunities for that translator since it doesn't seem to provide any additional reach for WGNS.

At the very least, simulcasting 102.5 the Game on an HD sub-channel on 102.9 the Buzz would make sense for anyone in the greater Murfreesboro/Rutherford County area who owns an HD radio or who would be willing to buy one to hear Predators games (or Alabama football, etc.) And, depending on the inclination of the owners of WGNS, simulcasting WGNS on WBUZ-HD3 in exchange for having the 101.9 translator carry 102.5 the Game (by way of translating WBUZ-HD2) would seem to make sense and be a potential win for all involved, from the Predators to Cromwell to WGNS. One caveat is that any syndicated programming on WGNS wouldn't be violating Nashville market exclusivity potentially held by another station by WGNS being simulcast on WBUZ-HD3.

This is all hypothetical -- I'm curious what plans (if any) are in place or in the planning stages for this venture.

YOU ARE KIDDING!
Monday morning, driving around Nashville, tuned in the morning show.
It was a re-broadcast of Friday's show!
Huh?
They were talking about "Last night's victory over the Saints", which was Thursday night, and "CJ's New Deal"
WTF!!!!
Couldn't some producer edit out the timely references and do a best of show?
Is this the level of good sports radio we are to expect in the future?
Is this the level of professionalism that we should accept?
I'm just saying...

All very good points jharmon but I think things will get better when ESPN moves over in the fall. I for one do not like the re-broadcast of games. Big turn off for me as I'm not a Preds fan.

Considering 102.5 has been a Sports Station for a little over a week, anything on a "Best Of Show" would have been heard only a few days before. As far as the HOST of the Morning Show on the Game, if you were to do a "Best of Show" of his entire radio career, (including his time at 104.5 The Zone and Sport56), what are you going to fill the remaining 3 Hours, 59 Minutes and 45 Seconds with?

Reruns of audio of sporting events in the daytime - hockey, no less - is even more baffling than the thought of an ESPN Radio affiliate airing "Mike & Mike" on tape delay!

Has anyone else noticed but "The Game" 102.5 signal sounds like its off frequency? Splatter.... I first noticed it on my car radio then when I got home I tried it and was same.
Is this something someone is working on or is it that way in Rutherford county. Just sayin' ???

That's just the signal. And therein lies the problem with WPRT. It's actually a Clarksville/Dickson station that is trying to make a splash in Nashville. Their signal covers the western half of the market and the bulk of the population in the metro area is south, southeast, east, and northeast of Nashville. If you're lucky enough to get the station outside of the 60db range, you're going to get splatter. There's not a construction permit to move the transmitter closer to the city center (no chance of a power upgrade - already a class C1) and the only way they'll be able to get a translator in these areas is to put WPRT-FM on one of WBUZ's HD subchannels.
