“It's Paul, the station owner and manager, who is indispensable to Talk 1300 not Paul the radio host.” As bad as Paul is as a radio host he’s even worse as a manager. Roast, I know you worked for Paul and you know his issues. He never treated people he thought couldn’t further his aims like human beings. His moniker “the man” should alert those who deal with him that he is delving for the gold. That’s Paul’s only talent. You are useless to this guy unless he thinks he can profit from his relationship with you. As much as he disparages State Workers and politicians that’s the mentality of this man. For what ever reason Paul cannot relate to the listener; it’s in his makeup from youth. Roney however has his finger on the pulse of what listeners are thinking and feeling unlike anyone else in the market.
Roney is morning drive, period! Gallagher replace Mr. Weaks? Chuck, I’m afraid the only roast you’ve been eating is possum and it has affected your brain. Joe is a great guy but his act is so inane he should do the “R-wing” circuit at the mental hospitals. This is my point that this market, in fact radio everywhere, is so malnourished for substance, that they think Weaks, Gallagher, Baldwin, Vandenberg, etc. are great radio hosts. Listening to Weaks is infuriating. He mumbles, interrupts himself, laughs at his own bad jokes and completely swallows the Call Letters. This guy, if he ever knew the basics, isn’t listening to air checks and his boss is too afraid to tell him he can’t communicate. Yesterday morning he interrupted his own story. The news chick is very polite but you can hear that she is tolerating a grandfather figure. (Weaks will soon be 70).
As for Paul getting credit for putting Dan Lynch on the air, yeah he did. But Lynch was only useful when life was easy and it’s not anymore. Lynch is behind the curve. Won’t believe or admit what’s happening until it’s painfully obvious. Roney on the other hand is giving listeners a place to air their anger and frustrations and people are mad. Dan is old world where he has to be the guy that not only discovered the problem but came up with the solution and he ain’t the man for that. He talks endlessly and when he finally takes calls monopolizes the conversation and screams at callers not to interrupt him. PLEASE! This is talk radio. A format that non-broadcasters like Paul and Dan and too many others in Radio can’t appreciate; They let anybody do radio these days just like anybody can be president.
