The Golden Globe Awards has a new owner…

Not so fast. Here's a quote from the new owner of the Golden Globes:

“As stewards of the Golden Globe Awards, our mission is to continue creating the most dynamic awards ceremony on live television viewed across the world,” said Jay Penske, CEO, Chairman and Founder of Penske Media and CEO of Dick Clark Productions. “We have a great team in place to grow this iconic brand and captivate new and existing audiences to celebrate the very best in television and motion pictures.”

So who is this guy Jay Penske? As the article says, he's now the CEO of Dick Clark Productions. But his Penske Media company also owns Billboard, Rolling Stone, The Hollywood Reporter, and a bunch of other major publications that have a lot more credibility than the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. He has the power to make the Golden Globes as big as the Academy Awards. He already does the Billboard Music Awards. So he can deliver a TV show to the networks and build a lot of pre-show buzz.

Accorcing to the article it will apparently be on a cable or streaming network. Hopefully that means it won't be conflicting with football playoffs on NBC.

DCP produces the Academy of Country Music Awards, which has been on Amazon Prime for the past 2 years.

Every time I hear the name Penske it's Roger Penske and Auto Racing. Now I seen the name Penske Media and it's tied to Jay Penske.

yep, Roger is Jay's dad, so the Penske Media is not owned by the rest of the Penske empire, which includes the Motorsports teams under the "Team Penske" umbrella and Indycar Series and the Indianapolis Motors Speedway, which Roger bought out a few years ago.

The Captain must be proud of his boy carrying the Penske name on in a different industry, but i'm sure when the legendary motorsports owner dies, Penske Media could end up merge into the rest of the Penske company if Jay's the heir to the Penske Corporation throne.
