THE Greatest DXing I ever had happened today!

The best TV DX I ever had was receiving KAKE/Wichita in Mobile, Alabama. I'm not sure how KAKE wound up on Channel 2 given that its analog channel number was 10, unless if it had something to do with the military testing out in the Gulf of Mexico that was going on at the time.

KAKE/Wichita also has some full power translators in Western Kansas. Not sure if they were are on Channel 2 or not, but I do know that they are on other channels from other towers in towns like Dodge City, Goodland, etc. That would be my guess.

Whe we got a new Zenith Chromacolor II 19 inch TV in 1973, it went in my (and brother's) upstairs bedroom in NW Indiana, (only 10 ft of twin lead).
It was a hybrid transistor/tube model, and of course had the totally analog continuous tuned UHF.
Summer days brought in Rockford , Il, Milwaukee, South Bend, and sometimes Fort Madison, Iowa, and once Grand Rapids.

I've gotten some great DX living in Charleston, SC. I've never gotten any Austin/San Antonio stations, but back when analog was still around, I picked up KFDX 3 from Wichita Falls clear on the beach, along with a PBS from there.

In North Myrtle Beach, I picked up KWRD 100.7, plus a couple of others (don't remember the others) during that epic 2005 outbreak. That same day, I got Omaha, Kirksville MO, and one other on Channel 3 over Wilmington.

I've also heard Tulsa stations several times, including 96.5, 95.5 and 92.9.

When I lived in the Valley, I would get some amazing stations.

Driving through Harlingen, I would often pick up a station or two out of Tallahasee Florida.

Or sitting in the drive way of my then boyfriend's house in McAllen, and listening to a station out of New Orleans. I called them up and they put me on the air too.

Driving between the valley and San Antonio one night, I was astounded. It was the stock am radio in a '69 Dodge hooked to an FM converter. EVERY station from the valley, from Houston, Victoria. S.A., Austin and even southwest Louisiana, all the way up. There was a station on every channel. Almost as good, driving in southwest Wyoming, coming down the east side of the mountains, I got all of Albuquerque, Denver, Des Moines and a collection of stations from the Dakotas and western Kansas.

I have 3 memorable DX's.

1) Early 90s in Paris, TX. Around 7pm, tuned into 94.5 expecting to hear KDGE, instead was hearing WVRQ/Richmond...crystal clear for at least 10 minutes.

2) Several years ago in the late afternoon I listened to WMZQ/Washington DC while driving northbound on I-45 near Madisonville, TX. Crystal clear for 5-10 minutes.

3) Several years ago, around 9am on a Sunday, heard WBGG/Miami for a few minutes (through a fair amount of static) in Greenville, TX.

Hello again people....

I am in Burnet for one more day, and 20 minutes ago in my car, I heard KMVK 107.5 "La Nueva Mega 107.5" At first I thought it was that crappy station KXTN, but no it had good Spanish pop music. lol

Also, I was hearing Top 40 CHR on 99.5. It was playing B.O.B.'s Airplanes song. Is there a Top 40 station on 99.5 around here? Could it have been Hot 99.5 WIHT? I don't know.....
