The 2016 Induction Ceremony of the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame was held last night at the Strand Theater in Marietta. As always--and I attended every one of them except the first--it was exceptional, just a great evening.
Because it was the organization's 10th anniversary, many past inductees were there. I'm going to miss some, but I saw Steve Holman, Kelly McCoy, Steve Goss, Willard Arbour, Steve McCoy, John Young, Rhubarb Jones, John Wetherbee, Mary Catherine Sneed, Rick Mack and Kent Burkhart.
This year's Career Achievement Inductees are Vic Aderhold, Harry Beadle, Matt Caesar, Johnny Gray, Bob Harrison, Condace Pressley, Bobby Pope, Bill Sanders, Ben Sandifer and Dan Vallie. Congrats to all.
All of the speeches were excellent, but I especially enjoyed the one by Bill Sanders. He said that when he was a newsman at WSB in the 60's, he was sent out to interview LBJ when the president was in Atlanta. Sanders said most of the interview got on the air, but a small part did not. The part that did not was when he asked LBJ about his wife, "Lady Bug."
Bill Tush was the MC, and a good deal of hilarious footage was shown from Bill's days on WTBS-TV.
