"The Guru" on The Edge

No idea. Hadn't noticed he'd been gone. How long has he been off?

And can someone un-confuse me. Who has been "The Guru" longer: the Edge Guru or Brian James? I've the Edge Guru refer to himself as "the Original Guru" a few times. Brian James has been on BLM for around 20 years hasn't he?

Probably a pretty tough call on that one, I know that Glen Simpson was using the moniker "The Guru" on WKIT Bangor going back at least as far as 1990, possibly before that if he used it during WZON's incarnation as a rocker when he was there, not sure on that one. Sounds like it's pretty even to me.

Still looking for info on Glen's status on The Edge, all reference to him on Facebook dried up around the end of October, the website is now a placeholder with reference to a new site coming soon and a "listen now" button, and there is an admonition on the FB "wall" to pretty much get over it when it comes to Guru, so I'm taking it by inference that he is done there. If I'm wrong, straighten me out, if I'm not, what's the scoop?

Thanks for the info Forever. I hadn't heard of Glen Simpson until he came on 93.5. But I don't go back that far. Brian James I know only because he (like Captain and Tommy C) has been on BLM for nonstop since way before I was listening to it.

I'll have to listen to the Edge AM show and see who's on in the AM.

At the end of the summer, the station seemed to be picking up momentum. But since then they lose their morning man (if he is gone...I guess nobody's sure), still have no night guy last I checked, and things just seem shaky. Not to mention they were continuing their sports coverage on the rock station. That may be something that can't be helped, but it still sounds kind of strange to go to sports on a rock station. And the less said about the Edge Girls, the better. Hopefully they can get things straightened out.

Strange timing...I started checking the Facebook page yesterday and today it's gone. And word is that Chris Rush is gone, too. What's going on over there?

Sadly Glen and Chris are both out and apparently there is a format change in the offing. I wish them both the best of luck. Chris can be reached via his Facebook page. I'm sure he would appreciate hearing from friends and about any job leads.

A format change? Wow....they only went rock earlier this year.

they've been classic rock for the last couple of years, they just amped it up and added 90's and more 80's stuff within the past year when Chris came on board

Anyone know what the new format will be? I have turned the station on over the last couple of days and it's still the same Edge music they'd been playing just without any DJs. After talking to a friend of mine who is close to the situation this does make more sense. The Edge hadn't caught on with sponsors or listeners in general and was still way behind WTOS even after bringing in Chris Rush and doing a lot of the things that WTOS used to do. Since they do a lot of high school games maybe sports will be the new focus. It could make sense.

I think it's caught on with listeners, unfortunately listeners don't always equal $$$$, although it looks better at a remote when 200 people show up rather than 20.

This is the same radio group that a couple years ago had sports on their AM, WSKW before switching it to an oldies format...so i'm not saying what they could do, but you get what i'm going for?

I think you're implying that they would run their AM Oldies format on FM too (with sports mixed in). I guess they could do that; wouldn't that put them in competition with WABK, though? I don't know that much about WABK except that it is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) music station in the area--at least ratings wise. I don't know if they make any hay in that area if that's what they decide.

'ABK has become more of a classic top 40 type format, heavy on the 70's and 80's and very little 60's to speak of, the AM oldies format they run on WSKW is much like oldies stations were 10-15 years ago: heavy on the 60's with a few 50's tunes and 70's tunes thrown in.

Understood. Like I said, I don't know much about ABK. Maybe that would be the way to go.

Maybe they're not changing formats. They're still playing classic rock. Nothing has changed about the music; just the ghost ship with no DJs.

i'm surprised that the ownership gave the edge such a short window to work, 6 months ? in a small market with only 2 books a year. I'm in portland and downeast but do travel and enjoyed listening to the edge when i can get it, one of the issues with that signal is their limited coverage. No good in augusta, no good in bangor. great in the trees in between the two. they were doing something different, musically and when i could hear it sounded like an actual live station, a rare thing in maine especially outside of portland.

And I scanned to 93.5 this AM on my way to get some groceries to find that you were absolutely correct.
