The Hannity-Fasulo Effect

970 is up in the latest trend by exactly the same amount that 1040 is down.

This is hardly surprising and only noteworthy because Fasulo made the mistake about crowing about his supposed first extrapolation on the air, based on a highly questionable reading of the numbers given to him by Mr. Maduri.

Fasulo seems to have moved from awfulness to near-mediocrity in his third month on the air. Will he achieve anything approaching listenability before emptying pockets force Genesis to pull the plug?

Frankly, I either 1) turn off my radio @ work, 2) go to WSPB AM 1450 or 3) FM between 3 & whenever I leave work... Can't really take too much of either Schnitt or Fasulo. Fasulo is boring to me... and I'm getting real tired of Schnitt pontificating and seemingly constantly patting himself on the back... Once I leave work... it's XM for the ride home...

In my opinion, Fasulo is a male Nancy Alexander. He appeals to women, but can be tolerable to men. He is much better today than he was the first few weeks. I wouldnt judge him much for another 3 months. Remember too, he is suffering with a signal that really sucks after sundown. My bet is that Hannity lost a lot of his audience with the time change, but will probably get more for WFLA than what was in that time slot before. Also remember that WWBA owns all the spots during PM drive now. That allows a lot more commercials and the ability to make more money. Give em a little more time. I sure like local radio. Enough of this syndicated crap. It's like
Beck. He was so much better when he was here.

I hear that. Fasulo spends a lot of time talking about local issues and interviewing local newsmakers... something sorely lacking in AM radio with all the syndication. I enjoy the program.

Fasulo is a nice, pleasant guy. Not particularly engaging and not all provocative. Perfect for the TV Daytime gig that had on Channel 8, but that to me does not translate into good radio. There is no strong sense of opinion there, he's not all that funny and he isn't bright enough to teach us a whole lot.

He's local and capable of interviewing off his notes. That's about all the show has going for it. Which in the current market may be enough.

When it comes to being bright enough to teach us a whole lot, I find the combative and heavily opinionated commentators you seem to favor extremely lacking in that department.

There's more than one road to "good radio". Fasulo will fill a niche for those who like to be informed as well as entertained.

Frankly, I don't recall writing where I find combative entertaining. I don't. However, I do prefer my hosts to actually offer an opinion and Brian doesn't seem to have one. His idea of an opinion seems to be to ask "what do you think?" To me the show is informative when the guest is informative and brings the topic to the table. And there are moments of that. As I said earlier, he is a good interviewer off of his notes. He is a good cue card reader (from his TV days no doubt), but he personally, I don't get a whole lot out of.
