The Hawk Off The Air

99.9 went off the air at about 11:30 AM Tuesday 3/4. At first their signal faded in and out in approximately 2-3 second intervals and then finally went off completely.
They returned to the air a couple minutes later in mono on very limited power.

Did the transmitter finally blow up? All I know is that now the girl in the next office can't listen to it and maybe I'll finally get a day of peace at work. How can anyone listen to the same songs ALL DAY EVERY DAY? At least with Top 40 the music changes every week or two.

I honestly believe that there is something mind-numbing behind a station like 99.9 FM. Is it possible that someone's brain could be so limited that they need a constant input of only 300 songs everyday for their entire life? How can someone stand it?

I find that my thought process is numbed when I have to listen to it for more than a minute or two. If I'm thinking about an interesting or complicated matter, I'm actually unable to process information when I'm working within listening distance of her radio set to that station. And that girl who is on in the middle of the day...her voice is like fingernails on a blackboard.

It's definitely a conspiracy on the part of the powers-that-be who finance radio stations such as that one. They only want to make impressionable idiots out of us so that we will go out and buy whatever crap they're selling this week. I should know...you should meet the girl in the next office.

It's a disgrace.

Radio is almost dead but as of now it appeals to the most small minded buffoons out there. The Hawk exist to serve that need. These people have no teeth, live in a trailer park, and "don't fool with that computer stuff."

radio is dying. It dies slowly everyday
classic rock todays rock ---- my ----.
Night Ranger and Elp mean nothing to me
I don't wanna hear about your car dealer remote

Seems Nassaus major staff cutting is finally coming back to bite them in the butt. They've had outages at their stations in the Poconos recently as well. Nassaus woes are part of an industry wide problem, how far do you go when you make staff cuts, sources say Nassau is extremely thin in the engineering dept. They basically have 1 man and 1 assistant covering all their stations(8 of them) So maintenance is probably not getting done and stuff like this is a result. Just another reason why the days of terrestrial broadcasting are numbered. Its so much cheaper to run an internet stream, the overhead is a fraction of the cost.
As far as the 300 songs, I whole heartedly agree... I can't stand listening to the Hawk (I actually listen to WEEX Because they have ESPN when I'm in the valley although its a pretty crapy signal.) The library probably hasn't been freshened up since they went on the air 6-7 years ago. Outright laziness on the PDs part...
Well... I feel for the poor guys working on these stations, hope they get them back up... they might get fired if they don't the way its going there....

This is when you put on The Bone or Frank FM... hell even 1029 has a better playlist than 999

The Bone? They play noise that nobody will care about 1 year from now and nobody can hear them anyway. Frank IS the Hawk in a different town. MGK? The bottom of the barrel of all the classic hits/rock stations in the area.

check out Y102. lots of classics you don't hear on the hawk or frank, and a couple dozen new songs like collective soul, daughtry, santana, finger 11 etc. try them for one day, and tell me that they don't have a great variety. I know that most people on this site are radio critics. try listening like a listener sometime. Y102 rocks. Today....Holy Water by bad company, some cars songs I have never heard on frank or hawk...upbeat led zep...and a new song or 2 every hour.
I have heard that their playlist is over 1000 songs in regular rotation. listen and let me know what you thing,

i have nothing against 999...in fact their one of my favorite stations...i run their myspace group groups.myspace.com/999thehawk ... which by the way, they seem to be back on the air, although not as strong as it should be up here in pottsville (its usually crystal clear in the car)... i get frank and mgk better than the hawk though with the way my antenna is set up... and in my levittown house 999 is very weak (even in the car its not too strong), which is weird because levittown is closer to easton than pottsville is)... frank fm comes in inside, but not in the car because of 1075 in the nyc... 105.7 the hawk is crystal clear inside and outside in the car...mgk is local up there so thats obviously strong.

well, the main point is 999 seems to have its strenght back... so thats good.

Agreed. WRFY over the Hawk, Frank and MGK everyday of the week. Not even close. It's like comparing Diamonds and
Rust. (Isn't that Joan Baez?). Just an amazing variety.

Don't forget back in January, or so, when their own Frank FM was off the air the greater part of a week.

you are an amazing poet dr. pickle ;D

Thank You sir for recognizing my talents. Im going to write a second verse. I never had any luck forming a band so I've decided Im just going to go to clubs and read poetry. Im also going to try and get published. I am the Beat Poet of the LV!. I am a modern day Charles Bukowski! In regards to the edited part I have decided to change that line to what a crock.

Did they promise you a job or something if you keep pushing for listenership? Did you just get out of college and are now hoping for more out of your internship by flying the official flag for Y-102 and hoping that someone notices? Geez...we get it...you have a crush on Y-102...

The following quote could very well be that of a fat, big haired, Hollister shirt, sweat pants, flip flop wearing, 17 year old, MTV watching, downtown Allentown wench!

hat's of to rockin rob...that's gotta be one of the funniest posts i've ever seen. i promote you to dr. rockin rob. you nailed the lv accent with type written words. You are the Tom Tom Club's answer to the song "wordy rappinghood". Make another funny please!!!

Im pleased by your knowledge of the Tom Tom Club. They only get airplay on college and Public stations which you as a Republican dislike.
