Is anyone as disappointed as me with the new nightime show on Real Radio? I TRY to listen...really, really TRY. But they lose me...not even a few minutes into whatever bit the have. Such a tremendous lead-in with the Philips Phile...I'm jumping at about 7:05:30.

Am I wrong here??

Not at all... it's almost embarassing that a radio station like Real Radio has them on 5 times a week. Easily one of the worst talk shows I have heard really...

From what I've had to listen to so far, I'm sure DC doesn't miss them.

Iv'e been listening to 104.1 since it went on FM as WINS with Wanda Roland and Rick somthing or other in the morning, Flounder in the middays. Trust me I've heard alot worse than the Hideout. Give it time.

What i would like to know is...

WHEN WILL EVERYBODY ELSE IN ORLANDO GET A CHANCE TO HOST A NIGHT TIME TALK SHOW TOO!!!

Maybe even...one that is...:
interesting
informative
fun
entertaining
enjoyable
LISTENABLE
unique sounding

and...oh yah...

one that doesnt have to dump EVERY SINGLE CALLER!!!
funny, NONE of these traits are anywhere to be found on TKS from 7-11pm Monday to Friday...

I remember shows like Cryin, Lovin and Leavin. Good lord. Also remember Passion Phones... Ed Tyll... Ms.B on the Phile. Cathy Taylor with news. The extended-length "Real Radio" jingle bed they'd use to come back into the local shows, with the crappy synthesized percussion hits. So dated.

It doesn't even seem like it was really that long ago, but it was 1994.

(Hate to break off topic, but I couldn't think of any good words for The Hideout.)

Mindless is fine.... but this is mindless and poorly executed.

I have heard no buzz from ANYONE about that show... hell, not even anyone on the Real Radio/Monsters webboard posts about that show.

At least Drew was engaging. Melanie I could have done without, but I guess every show has to have the "dumb blonde" factor.

I would very much rather listen to Jerry O'Neill trash the Shot Doctor...inane radio. And that's what makes me sad...have we come to this? Are we such a deplorable market that, if we want some talk radio, we have to either choose "bufforniry" (OK, spelling??) or the Hideout??

I'd listen to Michael Savage but I might have to drive my car off the road into a tree.....
 
Real Radio lost it's sense of direction some time ago. It's a shame, because in it's 'glory days' it was really one of the best stations in the country and incredibly innovative. Then it just seemed like the whole station got 'Drew Garabo-ized.' Mindless, no direction, no sense of purpose... just filling air time. Jim Philips deserves to be on a better station - has he just lost his passion for talk radio? He was so great, now it seems like he just phones it in most of the time. The Monsters used to be better - it's still their best show, but it seems to have lost something in the last few years. And Shannon Burke and The Hideout?!?!? What can you say about those shows? They're hideously bad. I'd take Ed Tyll over either of those shows anyday, and that's saying something! Real Radio needs some fresh blood in management - someone who will light a fire under the Monsters and Philips, fire Burke and The Hideout, and give the station it's sense of direction back.

Wanda Roland and some dude co-hosted it. Can't recall his name. Not many returns in Google with anything helpful. I know it wasn't anyone like Peter Rocchio or Clive Thomas. We need a wayback machine for this one.

Or just someone who used to be a big fan of TKS before it started to suck. Ed Hartley co-hosted Cryin' with Wanda, then she got the boot and he went solo. He was awful, used to give callers the "virgin salute" if it was their first time calling.

Philips has been phoning it in for the past few years, IMHO. It saddens me, because he used to be full of passion. Now he seems content to collect a check, rip off Stern's bits, and suck.

Monsters are just as bad, with that stunt crap. Russ Rollins is almost illiterate; have you read his "Ask RRR" on their website? He can't spell to save his life.

Burke and Hideout sound like bad college radio shows. I wasn't the biggest fan of Drew, but he was infinitely better than the morons on at night now. Management at TKS needs an overhaul, badly.

Philips may be the only real listenable "Talk Show" you hear on TKS...i listen...alot...

Its kinda funny how since Garabo left, Tuddle re-joins the Monsters???...hellooooo stuntboys!!!...Its ok anyways, the people who read their website cant read...as long as THEY think its spelled right...

Unfortunately...you are right...and...in the bigger scheme of things...if THESE are the kind of shows that Clear Channel as a COMPANY are putting on their talkers, what does that say about the future of their syndication? all of a sudden, it becomes clearer...

Agreed, although I like Shannon Burkes show except he takes (along with the rest of the station) way too many spot breaks. Going back to what I posted earlier IMHO WTKS jumped the shark when Press broadcasting sold the station to Paxon Communications. It all started to go down hill from there. And we all know who bought them shortly after. When cc took over they started syndicating their local shows on other stations and the shows lost some of their local flavor. The Philips Phile turned into a four hour game show and I had to stop listening. They cut back on the music that they played and changed most of the playlist as to not compete with their sister station (WSHE) at the time, but they eventually returned to their prior playlist. The syndication thing didn't work out for their local shows unless the Monsters are still on in Jacksonville, but then the xm thing came about and further watered down their local shows. Thank goodness most of that's gone and the station is more local then they once were, and I can listen to the Phile (for as long as I can tolerate it) again, but the damage has been done. It's not what it used to be and they take too many spot breaks. I guess we will have to accept it.

They were still very good under Paxson, and even in the early days of CC. I think the syndication deals is about when they started to go downhill... I always thought the Monsters and Drew would have a short shelf life, but Philips is one of the best talents in the country - just seems like he lost interest.

Back when I lived in Orlando (92-95) and Philips was transitioning from 740 to 104.1 I thought his show was one of the best in the country at reflecting what his audience was thinking about. He really understood Orlando and its ever-changing residents.

After a while on FM it was all about format and packaging... after they saddled him with the hideous Moira it was all downhill from there....<P ID="signature">______________
