The Highway Stations

Has anyone been able to see if KRXV broadcasts in HD? If they do, it would be interesting to see what they would put on their HD subchannels (maybe the drive and highway country).

I find it interesting that they list themselves as Adult Contemporary. I started playing the station in my store since their mix of music, news, etc would sound good while people are shopping and I hear songs like "Poker Face", "Let It Rock" and Hinder "Lips of An Angel." Hardly adult contemporary, and I don't even know if you would consider it Hot AC.

I wonder how the stations do with all the technology nowadays. I still listen for the traffic when I drive to Vegas, but I was with some younger guys and they would just look up the traffic and other info on their iPhones before even they get to it on FM 98 and 99.

The HD radio site does not list anything outside the major metropolitan areas as broadcasting in HD. Nothing in Barstow, Yermo, etc. So I guess the 'Highway Stations' are not in HD. I believe that would be a major investment for them considering the number of cars that have HD radios right now. I have HD in the car and am planning to go that way shortly. But what I have been doing is stocking up the iPod for the trip instead.

I was last in Victorville a week ago, and there were no IBOC sidebands (as far as I could tell) on KRXV or the other Barstow Highway Stations, all of which had strong signals where I was. I do not have an HD receiver so I can't be 100% sure, though.

It would probably be difficult for any of the Highway Stations to cover much of the I-15 corridor with HD, since they all run modest amounts of power and the terrain is difficult for their analog signals at points, let alone digital sidebands with 1% of that power. HD on KRXV would also risk degrading the signal of their Apple Valley translator on 98.3, which probably has more listeners than an HD signal would.

yeah. that's a good point. I didn't think of the fact that HD could degrade their signal when they have so much area to cover. In fact, they must have boosted one of their signals because I noticed it coming quite clear on the Vegas strip.
