I didn't see a hint of this in Clea Simon's expose last week.

Are you saying Whittmore is GONE ? Clea wrote last week about the weekend changes he was making. Still makes me think Entercom is ready to dump WRKO.

...is Bored-Op really Howie? :)

Yeah, it's in the Inside Track all right. "WEEI maestro Jason Wolfe, under whose watch 850 AM shot to No. 1, will take over struggling talk signal WRKO beginning this week."

Question: what kind of numbers was WRKO getting under the 25-54s? The only
numbers I'm permitted to see are the 12 + in RadioAndRecords and those
seemed fairly good. "Struggling"?

>>Word is, Whittemore, a former Boston radio guy who came to ’RKO in September, wants to return to Minneapolis.

He might just make it after all! (Tosses hat in air.)

>>Since coming to the talk station, Whittemore has overseen a number of changes, most dramatically the departure of longtime morning man Peter Blute. He’s also added a nighttime lifestyle show, beefed up business coverage and added weekend programming.

But is the main focus of 'RKO morning drive, afternoons, and evening drive?
I'd guess Rush and Howie do good; not sure what ratings the morning show
and DePetro are getting.

>>But apparently it wasn’t enough to cure the signal’s perennial ratings doldrums.

But c'mon, it's not like they're Air America :)

>>By moving Wolfe to ’RKO, the Entercom bosses are obviously hoping that some of the sports station’s magic can rub off on its sister signal.

So, in addition to the Celts, we have the Beanpot tonight on 680. More
sports on The Talk Station?

>>By moving Wolfe to ’RKO, the Entercom bosses are obviously hoping that some of the sports station’s magic can rub off on its sister signal.

So will Howie have a "Chumpline Awards Show" now?

Re: Radio And Records.com Confirms The Story

The next thing you're gonna tell me is that Hoyer and Cherington were only
_temporary_ GMs for the Sox, while they wooed Epstein back :)

Re: Radio And Records.com Confirms The Story

Please, Mr Wolfe..put something listenable back on the morning and evening shows. And weekends.

Thank you

Jum

Much as I hate the idea of them cancelling a locally based show, I wouldn't
mind if they went to ABC and asked them to take back Hannity (run it tape
delayed 7-10 pm), saying they'd have a better signal (esp after dark)
than WTTT. Hannity may be locked into WTTT for awhile though; who knows.

The current WRKO site says "TBA" under early Sat 3-5 am, and noon-1 pm Sat.
Running Beck now (no, not Jeff, and not the "I'm A Loser Baby" singer)
Sat nights. The Feinburg show they're now running on Sat and Sun afternoons
is his national show, I believe, not one just for 'RKO. BTW, between those
shows, "Taste of Boston", and a couple "Taste" re-airings, Feinburg logs
probably the most hours of all 'RKO talk hosts at the moment.

Re: Radio And Records.com Confirms The Story

I listened to Feinburg's show for a while Saturday and again on Sunday. That's fine..syndicated is OK with me as long as they're not running the infomercials
that they were running a few years ago. I prefer issue related talk shows and all the money shows drive me nuts.

I can't listen to the morning show..just can't. And I'd prefer Michael Savage
over the Feinburg evening show.

For 20 years or so I woke up to an alarm clock tuned to WRKO. Not any more.

Jum (not a radio person..just a listener)

Re: Radio And Records.com Confirms The Story

As talented as Scott Allen Miller may be his morning show is a dog. The constraints are foolish. Sounds like Whittemore was a disaster and someone acted fast to replace him.

Re: Whittemore leaves; Wolfe at 'RKO's door

The Entercom press release is at http://www.bostonradiowatch.com

Note the following: "His (Whittemore's) leadership was evident in the Fall 2005 ratings, as WRKO saw an increase in every demographic and time period from Fall 2004. Whittemore will return to his consulting practice in Minnesota as of March 1st."<P ID="signature">______________

agreed, something doesn't sound right, and Wolfe would be permanent??

one only needs to listen to the new evening show for five minutes or the geriatric infommercials to explain this pd's departure.

that's a reflection of PREVIOUS management

boston herald:

Word is, Whittemore, a former Boston radio guy who came to ’RKO in September, wants to return to Minneapolis.
Since coming to the talk station, Whittemore has overseen a number of changes, most dramatically the departure of longtime morning man Peter Blute. He’s also added a nighttime lifestyle show, beefed up business coverage and added weekend programming.
But apparently it wasn’t enough to cure the signal’s perennial ratings doldrums. By moving Wolfe to ’RKO, the Entercom bosses are obviously hoping that some of the sports station’s magic can rub off on its sister signal. WEEI boasts of being the No. 1 rated sports radio talk station in the country and has posted No. 1 numbers in the most coveted demos. Which is nothing to Whine about.

wasn't the RED SOX making it #1??

How 'bout the Best Of.......'

I say play "The Best of Jerry Williams" from 7-10. Sure would get better ratings. If Cable can have a TV Land station there should be room on radio for some 'golden oldies'. Plus, as an added bonus it would drive Howie Carr nuts. He thought he had killed and buried 'Ol Jer'.

Re: Whittemore leaves; Wolfe at 'RKO's door

I've since heard that they're around 14th in the 25-54s, a far cry from
the 6th place that they currently hold in the 12 +. (Note: am discussing
"place" they hold, not actual numbers!) Again, look at the
12 + ratings in R&R and WRKO looks good but apparently they're suffering
in the 25-54s which count more, I guess.

Wolfe To 'RKO?

Well, they already have Rush, Howie, and Savage....I guess it makes sense to add another homophobe to the crew.
