The Honda Commercial on the AM X-Band

There are two frequencies looping at low fidelity a commercial about the difference between a Honda Prelude and a Platypus.

One is on 1650 and is heard only around the U.S. 19 - East Bay interchange.

The other is on 1690 and seems to be reaching out for several miles.

I assume the Honda people or a dealership are behind this, but why is one of the signals showing up all over the place?
 
Look for a billboard somewhere with a Honda Prelude on it and I'll be you will find the source. This is becoming popular. Small part 15 transmitters really get out from billboards.

I heard one somewhere in the 1600 range on Hillsborough Avenue very near the fairgrounds, too.
 
A few years ago, a slew of these were in use nationally for Cadillac ("RadioCadillac.com"), operating off billboards. There was at least one in Tampa, and one on US-19 (north of Countryside), the latter on 1700 kHz, and it got out pretty well. I should still have the Florida ones archived on my page http://home.earthlink.net/~tocobagadx/flortis.html.
