The Hot Fm will flip to country

NewsNow said:
FCC still has WWHA as 94.1 - Oriental and WRHT as 96.3 - MHX.

I'm guessin that has to be some kind of miscue. I can't imagine the stations would flip to country and keep Bob and Sheri.
I can't either, but how would they have gotten those calls? It's strange.

I wish one of the pairs would go Hot AC, or at least adult top 40. It's the only saving grace against WERO.

The HOT FM has to be the station in NC with the biggest ego.

something my ears picked up on in one of their ID's several months ago they claimed to broadcast with 100 thousand trillion kilowatts?

uhh...what ?

I was part of that group that thought they could show "the hicks" how it was done 1993-99...lol / You're right...most of us were Yankees (including sales), we came from markets were we grew up listening to major market talent and imaging and guess what!?!? We were the dominate top 40 on the NC east coast for many years...after Archway bought WRHT / WCBZ...That was when it fell to ------. We refer to that time period at The Hot Fm as "The Yankee Years"... lol / 90% of us were from NY. One more thing...The owner (Gene Gray) I think purposly hired Yankees...we worked hard and made the station $$$$$.

Saw this on HOT's Webpage

After 16 years of being Eastern Carolina's favorite hit music station, our lease is up and the landlord is giving us the boot!!!! Yeah.....he sucks. So, The Hot FM has to find a new home, but don't worry, we are taking you with us! Keep listening for all of the HOT details about our new address!!!!!!!!

Does this just mean they are moving frequencies or going away or going HOT AC on another freq as rumored? Any insights?

Hank's website is talking about "The Big Move" and "Country is on the move in Eastern Carolina"

Frequency swap?

What's the point of switching the frequencies of two underperforming formats? Is this supposed to fix the problem somehow?

Yeah, they will be throwing away The Hot Fm on a different signal.

The image you mentioned has yet to come up for me. On Hank's site I still get the "Country is on the move in Eastern Carolina"

Hot, however has changed the logo on the site to be 94.1 and 94.3.

Man I've really seen it all now

The switch is indeed done. "Thunder Country" is on 103.7 and I've got Bob and Sheri on 94.3

Weird hearing them there. It's come full circle. They started on 94.3 in this market many many years ago.

A Few Observations On Thunder So Far..

1) Music-Must have got a hold of WRNS playlist and are copying it to a tee.Don't seem to be
going back any further than 91-92....Need to be a little different somehow
2) Jocks-Have not heard any so far.I didn't hear mornings so I don't know about that. They should have come on with jocks and they whole shebang in my opinion with jocks, giveaways and confetti falling from the ceiling.
3)Imaging-Not bad,not as obnoxious as Hank & not as Star Wars as what Jeff Davis was doing with Eagle. Sounds a little too much like Hot FM imaging. Thay need a bigger ballsey voice. Overall well written, please don't bash WRNS like Davis did. That shows no class and is free advertizing for the competion. I like it overall(sounds like WQDR wonder why???).Please keep liners fresh!!!
4)Technical-Eddie Harrell is a great engineer and just a good guy.I heard two things playing at the same time once or twice but Eddie will get it right.
5)Promotions-Not yet, again in my opinion you sign on with a big giveaway.
6) They have some good people and it should be fun. Henry,Don & Hank are smart guys. I think losing Tony Denton will hurt some but WRNS will have to sit up and at least take notice
for a little while. I wish all involved luck.Signing on a new product is fun and exciting.
7)45 minutes of music an hour... Hopefully not for long.....

All this is just my humble opinion & I'm not that smart so there you go. Your thoughts????

Listening to Thunder right now. I still haven't heard a jock. Maybe they are there I just haven't heard a human yet.Hiring Jeff Hackett is a really smart move. There is so much ego and phony in radio but Hackett is simply a genuine person who is
a nice guy with a lot of talent.Next Media's loss is Innerbanks gain. They need to use him wisely. I just hope the station will not be a WRNS clone.Others have tried and failed. Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.Its very early in the game but so far its very white bread. Let's hope this is just a toe in the water senario and not what they consider a full fledged dive in the deep end.
So far what is thunder doing to make the country listener want to change the dial??? Where is the personality???? Thunder has the talent and resources but if I'm WRNS as of right now I'm not sweatin' too much.Maybe Monday it will be full steam ahead......If it was me I'd be dropping T-Shirts out of a helicopter like KRP did turkeys and have Thunder country sky written all over eastern NC and be draggin a Thunder banner behind a plane and every damn festival I could possibly get to I'd be there... Again this is all just an opinion from one average Joe. I'm not
the sharpest knife in the drawer. The ball is in Thunder's court. Hey wait... I just heard Gina... cool... a jock.... and one of the best ever too. Gina is such a super talent with a great attitude and a sweet person. If I had a tenth of her ability I'd be dangerous.

On Air Schedule

6-10-Maddog from QDR
10-3-Jeff Hackett (you will be sorry you let him go RNS)
3-7-Gina Gray

I listened to Maddog this morning and part of Hackett's show. I liked what I heard I just wish they would add a little more personality, contests, weather breaks, etc. I like the 45 mins of music and just the 2 breaks an hour. I think the imaging is cool too if they will keep it up to date. Anyone know who is doing the imaging? I think it sounds more like a QDR clone than an RNS clone. I think that they are going to give RNS and the Bear a run for their money.

Why are they even bothering with continuing Hot? Especially with on air folks? A gig on a low power teen based format in ENC, the largest land mass market in the country has to be worth what, $17k a year? Plus all the mayonnaise packets you can sneak out of Panera?

Is that the same Eddie Harrell who used to work in Wilmington for WGNI/WAAV/Muzak back in the day?

Actually if I were WRNS I would be very worried. I understand that Curtis and Hinton are getting ready to unload a promotional campaign that is the largest in the history of this market. I have a close friend who works there and here is what I know. The Hot FM has just been parked on the 94 frequencies until they can spend more time working with it. It is going to soon be another format and it will not be CHR. In fact, it will probably not even be called Hot FM anymore. As for Thunder it is a work in progress and Mad Dawg has a lot of plans that will soon become obvious. He knows his stuff from what I hear. This is a full frontal attack on RNS unlike anything they've ever seen before. The RNS people are in for a battle. This is about to get interesting. Yes RNS has been attacked before but not from people like Don Curtis and Henry Hinton. Neither one of those guys has ever failed in any of their stations before. Things are about to change in this market. It's going to be fun to watch in my opinion.
