The hottest night gig in radio.

I LOVE PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT THEY KNOW EVERYTHING.
I'll call you out on one thing you don't know: internet etiquette. Obviously you haven't heard, but using caps is considered "shouting" and very rude and annoying. How about using proper etiquette? Unless you're about a decade or so behind everyone else and just got on the internet.

THERE ARE ENOUGH CHEERLEADERS OUT THERE, I WANT TO KNOW THE OPINION OF SOMEONE WHO MATTERS
And who the hell are you to set the tone that only "people who matter" need to give opinions? Are you the Administrator of this forum OR did they give you special permission? If so, please copy and paste that email.

Until you are able to produce this, who the hell are you again? I am sure WE want to see if you would even qualify as "someone who matters." ::)

OK so i guess I made a little faux pa in you cyber world. I was not aware that it was such a serious offense.

I am a no one. I do not run the site or the board. But I did not make the same kind of statements that you did as well. Talking about a topic and discussing it I feel is one thing. Making a prediction or judgement call based solely on personlal view and stating it as fact I do have an issue with.

As for you post about earlier about what I am doing here if I am no longer in radio...I say this. Do you watch ESPN. You don't play professional sports, but you are some how interested in what goes on. I used to work in the industry and may again one day is some small capcity. The fact that I am not employed by a station now does not exclude me from taking an interest in what is going on. I do have several friends who still work in the business.

I am not and have never said that no one can post their opinions or views. A little class and thouht before rolling out statements like we are on the school yard is all I would ask.

But then again. You will probably never hear from me again after this.

If FLZ has a short list on the jocks they want the hopefully we will know very soon who lands this dream gig. Best of luck to who ever gets it. As long as MindONdaRadio does not get it.

Boo flippin hoo. 39SOUTH is just pist caused I figured out he is really Jared Banks trying to hype himself up OR some on the beach board op who likes to reminise on his grand ol' radio days where he dreamed of one day being on the air. All while he was pushing buttons in some studio at 3am. Well 39SOUTH you have nothing to worry about, I didnt even attempt for the job. I am content where I am currently at.

You see, that is the problem with the boards here at radio-info. You get ex radio geeks, wannabe board ops, people on the beach, van drivers, or people who have no affiliation with radio posting on here giving their opinion like it somehow matters. If I recall its a radio community webpage. Having you admit you arent in radio anymore, that doesnt really make you a part of the radio communitiy now does it? I was DONE bashing on you till you nudged that little comment in there. Consider myself done again till you give it another go.

Do you think Tommy would bring in his former night guy Nick Nice from Birmingham? He is not the typical CHR jock. He has his own style which is what FLZ has always had in most of there night jocks. From my understanding Nick has HUGE success in Birmingham at Q.

You've never heard of Jay Money? HA! You must be the only one then! Who hasn't heard of Jay Money? I heard he came from Van Nuys, California, leaving behind a legacy in adult film.

By the way, thank you Jared Banks for directing me to such a wonderful place for discourse.

A little bird told me FLZ has made an offer to someone. Dont know who. Auditions are over now and Jared Banks is back to filling in till someone accepts the gig.

From allaccess.com:

Ratboy & Staypuff To Nights At WFLZ
CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WFLZ/TAMPA PD TOMMY CHUCK has announced that former sister Top 40 WIOQ (Q102)/PHILADELPHIA parttimers RATBOY & STAYPUFF have landed the much sought-after night shift. [EDIT]

Is this some sort of cruel joke? Makes me kick myself in the butt because I thought I had no chance and didnt even try but now I 2nd guess my decision to not throw myself in the running. No disrespect for Ratboy and Staypuff but parttimers are parttimers reguardless of market. I heard very little caller interactions with these guys. My money was on Mo Bounce. Either Mo Bounce or one of the other canidates were offered and said no OR Tommy Chuck would rather teach his new night guys how to be jocks without sounding like high school kids cracking corney jokes. What a disappointment. Tampa, you got robbed. Good luck Ratboy and Staypuff. Once again no disrespect to you, but you guys werent the best canidates by far for this one.

Where is Mind from? Who are you? I am sure that FLZ hears something in Ratoby and Staypuff that you can't. Maybe that is why he is running that station and you are wherever you are.

They have to have something worth while. Good luck and congrats. Make the best of it.

You know 39south you lot TONS of room to talk Mr I DONT WORK IN RADIO ANYMORE. Oh and since you cant comprehend the meaning of my screen name allow me to school you since you have a 4th grade reading level. MIND ON THE RADIO 24 7 . That means I think of nothing other than radio 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Meaning I am a radio nerd who knows a little about everything. Not saying I do know everything, but more like a little about a lot of different aspects of this business. And having being a vet in radio I know talent, from wannabe parttimers who vomit every break, to little has-beens like yourself. My identity is irrelevant. But what is is the fact that FLZ could have had a much better night show than what they picked. I cant believe they made all that stink about this being the biggest gig in the biz only to pick some guys who work parttime. Damn it sure sounds if I am hating. I guess I am. It is nothing personal against Ratboy and Staypuff but damn, they should at least acknowledge that they were no way in the least the best talent to try out for that job. Oh and a friend of mine who lives in the market just told me that their first night, they aired ZERO calls. Correct me if I am wrong but a night show is supposed to be listener interactive. Oh well, back to 39south. "Listener interactive" means they talk to and air callers. There ya go buddy, didnt want a big word like that to confuse ya.

Well, MIND, I'm not sure whether to agree with you or call you an ass. I think I'll do both.

Calling you an ass: I have an issue with your "parttimer" theory. Why do you seem to think that parttimers shouldn't have a fair shot at landing full-time positions? Where do you think 99.9% of all full-timers in the business today started? Do you think they just showed up at the radio station one day and some PD put them on the air, straight to full-time? Obviously not, right? Rat and Puff were part-time, yes, but in market #6. Tampa is market #19 (or 20, depending on which website you're looking at), so it makes sense that perhaps a part-timer from a market like Philadelphia might leave for a full-time gig in a market like Tampa. For that matter, I know of some stations where they have members of their part-time staff that do more entertaining shows than some of the full-timers.

All of that being said, I'll agree with you that I don't think Rat and Puff were the best candidates for this job. WFLZ is one of the prime night gigs in this country, period. Those two, in my opinion for all that it may or may not be worth, are not that solid on the air without a third person leading them in the "Freak Show" format, a la what Mo' Bounce was for them at Q102 up until eighteen months or so ago. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm not, but I can say that I streamed their audition shifts and I was less than impressed. Whether that is a reflection on their abilities or if it's simply a matter of them not having enough non-Philadelphia-specific phones to put in their VT remains to be seen.

I've also heard that the job doesn't pay near what a lot of us would expect, which may be a big reason why Wacker left it for an ad agency position. Maybe the position WAS offered to another individual, such as Mo' Bounce, but it paid less than the position they were already in?

Regardless of anything that I've said here, best of luck to Ratboy and Staypuff at FLZ.

An ass? Maybe. Dont attempt to tell me how it is in radio as if I dont know. I was simply stating that they sound like 2 high school kids cracking male targeted fart jokes at one other. (Not literally) That is not compelling radio. I have no beef with parttime jocks. God knows there are plenty out there who sound great. But when parttime jocks sound like parttime jocks, yeah... I got a problem. Market size is no issue here, period. But like you agreed with me on a few things I will do the same with you. I am going to speculate that the gig was offered to someone else. Now that I think about it, I am an ass Shuckzyo. Maybe its because I feel Tampa got robbed. Maybe its because I have an opinion. Oh well, I have no affliliation with FLZ, Tampa, or even Flordia except ex coworkers. Consider myself out this conversation unless someone else wants to throw their 2 cents into what I think about the whole thing. (39South not you, you dont count... you arent even in radio) However, I will reply if you say something.

To those who misconcepted my posting... I was simply saying how I think they were not the right guys for the job. It wasnt a personal attack on them whatsoever.

I'm glad FLZ went with those 2 guys, and I don't mind the fact that the new jocks didn't air any phone calls the first night. That's pretty refreshing if you ask me :) They've got a plan, and they're going to try and build a name for themselves.

The guy whose bashing these guys doesn't realize that FLZ is known for taking chances with their night jocks, and not hiring the typical cookie cutter "talent".
Anyone remember Bubba The love Sponge on FLZ? How many other CHRs at the time had a night jock like him? A shock jock in the evenings for kids, a DJ who was fired from a number of stations, and someone who only had time to squeeze 7 records in a typical hour.
Or what about Kane? When FLZ hired him when his only commercial radio experience was in Syracuse. He was very young, but also very driven and passionate. It was Kane & Munchie (now at kiss 95.7 Hartford) holding down the fort, and doing an incredible job.

These 2 new guys who were just added to night had to get the A-Okay from more than just from the station's new PD. I wouldn't be surprised if FLZ's former PDs, as well as the top brass at CC, had a hand in picking out the new show.

Give these guys a chance, and stop hating on one of the smartest CHRs in the world.
