The i network

A friend of mine called Channel 26 in New London, Connecticut (the i affiliate in Hartford) and asked them what the purpose of the i network is supposed to be. He was told that it's for any program producer who has a show and is willing to buy time on the network. He was told the only people who do this currently are Rory and Wendy, the brother and sister team who host the religious talk show The Rory and Wendy Show. Further more he was told that people can also can buy time on Channel 26 or any other i station and that in some areas sports teams are buying time on the local i network station inclduing The Charolette Bobcats, Atlanta Hawks, and Atlanta Thrashers. All 3 are buying time on the local i stations. Channel 26 had no comment about the poor audio.

For the record, I recall as early as 2003 or 2004, PAX stations airing sports in Tampa (Devil Rays) as well as Atlanta.
______________

The Florida Marlins also air some games on Miami's Pax/i station.

At least at one point, the PAX O&O's in the Washington, DC market (one in VA and one in suburban West Virginia) carried the Baltimore Orioles in that market. I don't know if that situation continued after the Nationals showed up, but I think it did.

In all these cases, they were probably time-buys.

It probably costs far less to buy airtime on "i" (formerly Pax) stations than on any other station in their market.

Back in 2003, the Arkansas (Little Rock) Twisters Arena2 football team's roadgames were shown on KYPX CA/TV (ch 20/49). Also that year, Arkansas-Pine Bluff's (UAPB) football games were aired on the station Memphis Grizzlies games showed up also during the 2003-2004 season..

KYPX dropped the PAX affliation last summer prior to the rebranding, it airs a locally produced network which apparently feeds other Equity-owned former PAX affils called RTN: Retro Television Network. Sort of a bargin-basement TV Land but only on for 12 hours per day, guess what is on the other 12 hours: why, of course informercials.

That's still six or seven fewer hours of infomercials per day than most "i" affiliates!

Is that audio as bad on other stations as it is on Channel 26? It's so high pitched it gives me headaches. Not that I watch anything on it, but I hear it when I'm flipping through channels.

Regarding PAX/i sports:

Does "i" have its own commentators and coverage, or is it taken directly from the team's in-house production?
______________

Fortunately, there is no "i" affilate in the "Charolette" market (though we do suffer through their programing on cable). The Charlotte Bobcats air over the air on WJZY-UPN46 and on cable---Time Warner's Newschannel 14 and Comporium's Tri-County 14, and I guess other channels on other cable systems.

I checked the schedule for KYPX. It looks rather interesting. They did list some sports. Apparently they still show the Grizzlies and there was Big 12 basketball scheduled as well.
