The impact of Christmas flips on AC charts

Don't worry... come December 26th, you'll start to see the GREAT PURGE happen... the songs that were doing well and bulleted prior to the post-Thanksgiving crazyness will regain their spins and then some come the 1st week in January as happens every year now.

I was just considering this fact a couple of days ago. Right now I am working to tweak our station's Hot AC playlist over to a "Bright AC" playlist, and that is nearly impossible to do right now. Everybody (including us) is doing Christmas music, and trying to sift through the gold AC charts on Mediabase right now is so difficult because it's dominated by Christmas gold.

I usually find the best music of the year being released starting in February. For a month or so, it gets rough trying to find anything. Additionally, it seems to me that the stations on Mediabase who do not flip to Christmas are usually the ones who have crap playlists.
