The Imus "Announcement"

Imus said on last Thursday's "Imus In The Morning" his contract expires December 3rd, and we might hear an "announcement" over the weekend.....Anybody hear anything yet?

The big question is will tomorrow be the Iman's last show or have they signed a New deal? I'm sure if he does stay it will be for a lot less money than Citadel paid him. If they don't resign him what's Cumulus plan b and where does IMUS go next?

IMUS staying..and thanks to Clear Channel bargaining..the I MAN will not be taking a pay cut! Cumulus will continue to pay him full freight.

I am confused I thought Imus was on WABC Radio (Cumulus) and Fox Business (FOX). Why would CC help WABC? I would think CC would try to get him on WOR which CC is in the process of buying.

I think what he is saying is that Imus shopped himself to CC and thus Cumulus had to pay up to keep him.

Exactly!

Strange or not, if you deliver results but are not happy, you should shop for a better deal. The deals that Cumulus offered their talent up to this point were reductions in pay. If you're a good performer, this may be the way to keep your present rate.

No doubt that if IMUS had another offer then Cumulus was forced to bite the bullet and not get IMUS on the cheap. I wonder though why no announcement? Is it a one, two, or three year deal or what? Is there really a deal or just talking? Seems kind of a strange way to opperate if you really want to keep a major biller on the radio.

Just ride the wave......with its massive debt and no where to put it, the unraveling of Cumulus may begin sooner than you think. Lou is sweating.......

Well, with CBS Sports Radio announcing a new national morning show (CBSSR is a venture between CBS and Cumulus), we know Imus (previously heard on WFAN) won't be going there - and John Feinstein would have had him as his lead-in...

As much as I've enjoyed Imus over the years, I just can't see what leverage The I-Man would have by shopping his show to other outlets....I mean, why would Clear Channel even listen to a proposal? At the top of his game, Imus was a truly marketable commodity, but those days are long gone.

Even on his best mornings, Imus continues to miss what's going on around him, stumbles and mumbles through copy, and kills bits by informing us that Rob and Tony's scripts suck...maybe that stuff was funny the first couple of times he used it, but now, it just lays there dead in the water.

When he shows any interest in a subject, he's still a bulldog and can ask some pretty good interview questions. But most mornings, it's almost painful to hear. I think Charles McCord had it right when he just figured enough was enough and retired.

Fact is...the threat caused Cumulus to back away from forcing the I Man to take a paycut. In there eyes, he still has value and the last thing they want is for him to end up on WOR.

I've been a listener, and watcher, of Imus for about fourteen years. I guess I'm getting old because I enjoy him less and less each day.

Word on the street is that Imus and McCord are no longer good friends. It appears Imus did not want Charles to retire, mostly because McCord was responsible for writing most, if not all, of the material Imus used in both his comedy bits and questions for guests.

I read where Connell McShane is out of the picture. Good! He added absolutely nothing to the program.

I still believe Imus should just retire. There are so many talented announcers and other radio staff being fired by the mega-media giants, yet Louie boy can find the money to keep Imus on the payroll. What a shame! ::)
