The inevitable Christmas flip thread

Yes folks, it's that time of the year again, where we start watching for stations changing to all-Christmas music.

I heard Christmas music at two different periods today from Biloxi's Magic 93.7, but their website playlist is back to the old format so I assume they're only doing it part time.

Has anyone in Mississippi gone to all-Christmas yet?

Eagle 99 in H'burg has flipped...dont recall it helping them last year.... sounds silly to me...to hear xmas already...i do have a biased opinion though !!!! (they're the competition) But its not even thanksgiving !!!!!

They should change 94.7 and 93.9 to christmas since the stations are already toast anyway after being sold.

All Christmas? Too expected, conventional.

The move is obvious: All New Year's. Fresh, new.

See? That's out-of-the-box and off-the-hook.

"We just heard 'Auld Lang Syne' from the Guy Lombardo Orchestra, and before that 'Another Auld Lang Syne' from the late, great Dan Fogelberg. Coming up, your request for 'New Year's Day' by U-2, and killer tracks from Guy Lombardo and Dan Fogelberg!"

Rob, don't forget the flip-side to The Eagles/Please Come Home for Christmas, "Funky New Year."

See? We have got LOTS of music to play.

What about Mix 98.7. Last year they did part time Christmas music on the weekends

They usually start it on Thanksgiving night.

Will Oldies 105.1 go all-Christmas like they did last year when they were Q105.1? They started a couple of weeks before Turkey Day last year. Also, 99.1/970 went all-Christmas while transitioning from sports to classic country.

The LP Traffic Stations on 1600 AM Band Around 40 Loops In Memphis Should Be Used Strictly For Programming Christmas Tunes !
The Awful Feed Is Awful, Really- What A Perfect Combination !

Programing On The Regular AM/FM Band Should Start Christmas Eve Morning @ 12:00AM, However Everyone Wants To Be The First.

This Must Be Murder On Ratings, But They'll Bounce Back !

Dunno how it affect River but generally Christmas music, no matter how early it debuts, results in a ratings increase, not a a decrease.

Don't feel too bad; Magic 96 in Birmingham flipped to Christmas music before Halloween. Can we say "too soon"? ;D

You Are Exactly Correct About Ratings Being Up, I Think The Reason I Am Freaked By This Is @ WKZB We Got A Sat Feed Of Christmas Music from ABC Radio. This Went On For Days ! Then I Had To Cart Up! Then Carts Went To Control & I Had To Listen To 5 + Hours Daily. Man That Was In The 80s. I Am Still Traumatized !

HALLOWEEN !!!! That's Crazy !! Absolutely Insane !

I'm assuming that Mix 98.7 will not go all-Christmas on the weekends. They weren't on Thanksgiving night or Friday and I just checked their song logs on yes.com since I'm not in listening range and it appears to be programming as usual.

I enjoy christmas music, but for some reason stations play the exact same tracks over and over. For instance, Bing Crosby put out multiple christmas records but the only songs they play are White Christmas and Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Same with Elvis. Blue Christmas gets over played yet many other good ones hardly makes it on the air.

I'm also sick and tired of modern pop stars taking classic traditional christmas songs and trying to "make it their own" by adding vocal gymnastics, octave jumps, runs and other tasteless embellishments and totally butchering up the music. Pop stars should be banned from recording christmas songs, especially sacred ones. Only real singers should be allowed to touch "Oh Holy Night"

Well Said ! Stevie Nicks Or Whitney Houston & Several Others Should Never Attempt !
Generally An Artist Signature Songs(s) Peeps Just Really Butcher.
