The Internet At Threat Again

http://news.cnet.com/8301-31001_3-5...f-isps-to-start-policing-copyright-by-july-1/

Now I am in full support of these piraters riping off the artists and getting whatever illegal $$$ like the guys at MegaUpload that should get shut down, fined, and banned from the Internet, but at the same time, it can backfire on others, including the Internet broadcasters. I receive emails sent to me from record labels, artists, and my mixshow DJ's of their material or mixshow that is uploaded on Soundcloud, Mediafire, Zippyshare, etc. So I can legally download a material, legally sent to me by the legal copyright holder, and still get flagged as illegal downloading by the ISP providers. Now, some of you can say fight it, but why do we have to go through loops to prove ourselves when we are just the promoters here. I also have a sense that this could be an inside job to have the independent Internet radio broadcasters shut and only have the big guys run the streams, i.e iHeartRadio, radio.com, Pandora, last.fm, etc.

Nah. They'd rather go after sites like Pirate Bay or such related.

I still have a feeling it's more than just that. Remember, the RIAA and SoundExchange tried to shut down Internet broadcasters about five years ago, with the threat of royalty rates tripling, and have the big guys take full control of Internet radio.

I feel bad for the new upstart rdio.com (not radio.com).

Rdio has it rough. Being squashed from all sides while receiving the least press coverage isn't making things easy. Mog is rumored to have been sold today, meaning the only other player of similar size and services is out.

I am not sure this will hurt internet radio all that much initially. But I think it will push a lot of people to Spotify and Pandora as an alternative to piracy, which will hurt small players in short time. The media fascination with Spotify and Pandora will be the death of small internet radio stations and small subscription services alike. I even see Rhapsody going down in the future.
