"The Jetsons" vs. the real 21st century

Regarding automats, were they in a lot of big cities? I always pictured them as more of a New York thing. I remember reading back in the late 70's in either People or Us magazine about the last one in NYC closing its doors, and I saw one of those restaurant tour-type shows on the Travel Channel a year or so ago that talked about somebody opening a new one in New York.
 
If my memory serves me correct, when "The Jetsons" got revived as a first-run syndicated show in the 1980's, there was a scene in one episode where Judy Jetson proudly told here Mom that in her history class that day, she learned all about the Compact Disc, which had just come out a couple of years before that episode was produced!
